Independent Shop or Dealer Service Center

So, called my dealership, who I like, but I'm not a fan of dealership prices..

Service A was quoted at $280ish (although that does come with a loaner) - I asked what A entails, and its basically an oil change, and they give the car a look over to see if they can find anything else to charge you for (okay I made that last bit up.. sort of, but they do an inspection of the various lines and belts, all of which I can do myself)

Called an independent shop down the street who works on imports, specifically BMW and MB, and got a quote for $110 for the same work.

Being this is a relatively minor service, and down the line I plan on doing much of the minor maint myself (oil changes, brakes, etc), the independent also offers a service indicator reset after doing a quick look over to make sure you did not screw up, of course they charge for this, I forgot to ask how much.. This is my test to this shop, to see if I would consider bringing my car to them for the more intensive services that are coming down the line, or to help decide whether or not to go back to the stealership...

I would take to the stealership for all warranty issues, but for a Service A or B definitely the independant shop. As long as the independant shop has a (SDS) Star Diagnostic System.

I imagine they do, as that would really be the only way to reset the service indicators, or can that be done with other tools?

I used to reset my Toyota one all the time using a key sequence

You can reset your oil service yourself. I've been resetting my oil service since, I had my 2005 W203. If you PM me with your email, I can email the instruction to you. It's simple.
