Dads C63 Vented Hood Project - teaser pics
One of the major problems that we deal with is heat build up under the hood. Due to the design and seals the only place heat can escape is down and out the tunnel by the tranny and exhaust. No where up top can it get out.
I have been thinking about doing something for a long time and finally started it. I wanted more than one vent and in more than one place. Some of you will think this is too much and others will think its not enough. Here is a pic of where we are today.
Here is the stock hood with some small modifications.
The front multiple louvers are just above the plastic air tubes to allow heat to be pulled up and out past them. Helping circulation and heat escape. The rear vents are just above the two air filters and will allow air to escape up and out instead of pushed down and past the intake "Y" where all the hot air must go without them. Think about it. While traveling all the heat is pushed out and around the plastic intake "Y" that all the intake air passes through. Hopefully this will allow that air to escape out the top and not be forced by and around the intake "Y".
There will be a small black wire mesh behind all these vents/louvers. What do you think??

I would not attempt body work myself. Dave at Sanford Paint and body is a car nut and a perfectionist so its in good hands.
He has a great crew at his shop and they all do GREAT work!! I believe when its all painted that the vents will be less obvious and hopefully blend in well.

And as usual, pics don't do the project justice. This is going to a sick looking and functional hood. With quite a bit of weight reduction as well.

Oh, you'd be surprised...... there is some weight to be lost when doing a custom set-up like this. It will still be a steel hood, but about 10lbs less. So not the huge savings you see with a c/f hood, but still a loss.

Updated pics this morning:
As Ben said, it is a little lighter than the stock by about 10#.
The problem we have is that right now there is NOT a C/F hood with vents like these and I had the stocker to play with so why not.
However, there might be a C/F hood just like this one in the future, who knows.
Anyone notice something different about this hood besides the louvers and vents?
