New to the C63 scene
Hi guys,
Luck came my way, and an acquaintance of mine decided to sell his C63. Seeing the opportunity, I immediately put my 2007 STI up for sale, and snatched up the charcoal grey C63. It has a few little modifications done to it, and I'll share a ****ty cell phone pic below:
So far I'm very, very impressed by the car. It pulls like a freight train in all gears. The coilovers really make the car a blast to go around corners. Then the seats and exhaust noise make it a blast to drive at any speed.
Coming from first an 04 SRT4, and then an 07 STI, this is the most well rounded car I've owned. The amenities are out of this world. However, the only quality I have to ask you experienced guys about, is what's with the microphone for bluetooth? It seems like I have to yell in order for the other side to hear me. Is there a software update for this, as I can't find a setting to turn up the sensitivity.
I also just got back from the drag track. I've done a lot of drag racing in my limited time, but it's never been with a RWD car. Right now, with headers, airboxes, and pulley, I was anticipating a low to mid 12. Well, I was nowhere near that. My best run was a 12.89 @ 112 (2.05 60 foot, best of the day). Now, I'll throw out there that the track was in bad condition, but I have no idea how to launch it. There are 275s on the rear, but I'd just spin. I just tried to get it rolling, and then gradual on the gas, but it still spun. What are your guys launch strategies, and what type of 60 foots does it get you?
Anyways guys, I'm ecstatic to be here, and let me know if there are any events in Eastern Canada or the Northeast.
All the best.

Yeah, I'm not a huge fan, but that pic is really, really bad as well. I was of the same mind as you guys, but they look much better in person (plus they fit perfectly). Plus their MHT wheels, which are not cheap (~8k w/o tires), and not easy to sell/trade.
My thoughts are to change all the hardware over to black, but we'll see.

That would be the easy way out. I'm sure I could get a set of ET streets, or drag radials with other rims. However, I'm really looking for some strategies on how people successfully launch a street-tired C63. It's not easy, but I see a few serious drag racers on here, and I'd like to know strategy (brake stand, early shift into second, shift points, etc.).
I really don't have the time or the space at home to have a set of tires for every different auto-sport I participate in.
Thanks for the input though.

Nice car & love the stance. Are you serious, your friend paid 8 000$us for the wheels only? Wow, that's almost more than OZ, HRE or BBS? I don't know about MHT, are they in the same league as HRE or BBS or OZ?

i know coming from someone that would love a set of HRE's.
I am actually working with someone to see if they can make a Forgestar rim that will fit a 295x30x18 or 19 tire that wont rub.
Short of putting Drag radials on my wife's commuter car. I really need to figure out traction. No point having all them ponies if it just spins in place. All i want is traction with a 280+ tire rating.. really that much to ask?

Either way, I say wheels are all about size, fitment, and style. These things are perfect size and fitment, and not great on style. All black will definately improve them.
Tune is definately in the cards, but I'll wait till next spring to do that. I'm trying to find a tune that works through the dealerships, but as in every other aftermarket scene besides BMW, I don't think that's going to be possible.
MHT is not in the same league, he just overpaid by a longshot. They're worth just short of $1k per rim new.
Thanks for the kind words guys. I'm located in MTL if any of you are ever doing a track day in the region.

That's my plan. We'll see how it pans out.

All modifications were bought and installed through PFAFF which is affiliated to a local dealership outside of Toronto. The local manager agreed with it, so I "should" have warranty.

Nice to see another MTL member on this forum. Welcome to the club fellow! Shoot me a PM if you ever come down to Ottawa... we can meet for coffee!! As for the wheels, it's your friend lost, but your gain... 8K $ *ouch*!

You mentioned you have headers. Do you know which ones? If you already have headers, I would be lead to believe you already have a tune.
Those wheels........nuff said already.
BTW-welcome.

I've contacted MHT, and the wheels will be getting painted entirely black, with black hardware. I haven't decided whether to do regular black, or flat black face with slightly more glossy black lip. Either way, all black.
Can anyone comment on how to replace the chrome trunk and window moldings?

In all seriousness, if it were me, I would not throw any more money at those wheels. Sell them and get something that enhances the car a little better.
