I was running General Exclaim UHP 265/30/20 just to be safe, because the car was being lowered. I could've got away with t a 275/30

That’s correct, the ET is now 56 for this rim. That doesn’t mean an ET of 56 will be practical for other makes and styles of rims. In my case, shaving the baseplate also allowed me to maintain the existing lip width. The lip would have decreased if the centre had been physically repositioned in relation to the inner/outer rim to acquire this ET.

I have 10mm clearance for the tyre on the inside, I can just push my finger through the gap given that the inside guard is a flexible felt type material. If it helps, my tyres are Yokohama Advan Sports.

305 definitely wouldn’t fit with my application without modifying the inner guard and even though the felt material could easily be trimmed away, you also have brackets for auxiliary lines like the brakes and such to consider plus how much room you’ll need when the suspension fully compresses. Otherwise the rim/tyre compo could lock up in the wheel well when the car squats. A lot of measurements were required with all this taken into account before any machining was considered practical. It was also necessary to ensure the machining still gave clearance for the centre spokes so as not to hit the brake callipers.

A 295 on the rear with a 30 profile would give a high side wall, the profile of the front tyre would need to be adjusted to give an equivalent rolling diameter and my guess is the aesthetics would be wrong. Just my opinion.

Josh ‘C63guy’ is one of the few I’ve seen with considerable rear rubber and it required major body work to his vehicle to achieve the out come. 295 isn't as wide as his but good luck if you can do it without the same effort.

Could you fit 20"s and still be able to carry 4 adults once in while without rubbing ?
