I'm curious what you expect me (us) to do with this information. I'm seriously not trying to be pedantic, but am genuinely curious. Are you suggesting we should not drive our cars (so we don't wreck 'em)? Or are you suggesting we just be more careful?

pedantic? wow, had to look that one up ...

That car will be back on the road in 2 months....
Insurance may say its totaled but it will roll through the auction blocks like every other write-off

what did you do to your orange bumper light/reflector?
It looks blacked out and really nice--did you have them sprayed or is that vinyl?
I couldn't tell if your tails were blacked out too or just dirty!
Nice car--too bad it's toast, but lucky you're okay and you can live to see another day and anohter ride

how did they spray the reflectors?
inside or outside and did you do this locally?
How much?
Wonder if they'd do some for members here (like me)?![Big Grin](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
I could order new ones and have them painted and then swap out the lense.
Looks good and oem like.
I wouldn't take that car back either if I were you, they're never the same again.
Take the check and move on--keep us posted

Not wearing a seat belt only effects the driver? WTF. And let me guess, no insurance and who pays the bills for the high trauma injuries sustained in accidents with the passengers not wearing seat belts? That's right, all of us! So STFU about that BS about not wearing seat belts.

Sorry about the crash but don't most of you know that if you don't wear your seatbelt the front airbags will not deploy! Same also if no one is sitting in the passenger seat, their front airbag will not deploy. Not wearing a seat belt would mean you are closer to the steering wheel at time of impact and the airbag could end up killing you.

Exactly -- the airbags and seatbelts are designed to work as a system. The bags won't go off if you don't have your seatbelt on. AFAIK an exploding airbag will increase your injuries if you are not harnessed in.
A "personal injury" lawsuit is going to be a tougher case here, if data shows you weren't wearing a seatbelt -- you'll have to acknowledge you had already broken the law, and thus didn't take your own safety seriously.... plus what injuries were made worse by not wearing a seatbelt.
I guess they don't show those blood n guts "Highway of Death" series in Driver's Ed anymore!
(no I am not as old as this film!)

Thanks justthebest!
Ouch to the pictures! From the pics the chassis might be okay as the impact was above the front aluminum protection beam. However, I would be worried about the engine, gearbox, drive train, as the impact went straight to the engine and possibly pushed them back and damaged internal components. So yes, I would also lean towards a write off.
