*** 25.2 mpg on the highway for C63. What's your best mpg? ***
Hopefully, there aren't cops watching the cameras in the tunnel.
But, I did finally hear [from outside the car] what a C63 (mine) sounds like when it's driving around. I had my brother drop me off at an intersection the other night and I let him drive it around the block. I couldn't believe it. I think I heard him over 1/2 mile away. It sounded like thunder a little bit and I don't even have headers.
I switched places with him and I took off in "Sport" and when I came back to get him, I made sure to get on the breaks so the car would downshift at higher rpms and make that sweet music. haha
He was floored. He said it was awesome.
My car averaged 25.2 mpg last night on the freeway. My average speed (mph) was 73-74 mph. My total trip was approximately 48 miles.
My car has BMC filters, ROW box tops, no carbons, and Hankook rear tires. Everything else is stock (except for the door pins
).This thread is meant to be lighthearted and fun. Who can show the best fuel economy for our pollution machines?
But, this thread is also meant to be serious. "Why" you ask? Because, if I'm getting 6.2 mpg better fuel economy than what is advertised for this car, driving at 73-74 mph, which isn't exactly the optimal speed to maximize fuel economy, then I'm mad about three things:
1) Did this car really need a gas guzzler tax?
2) With all the "need for green" talk, fears about carbon emissions (lame carbon filters), energy independence!!!, I can drive my car in a way that gets 6.2 mpg better fuel economy than what is advertised.
3) If carbon filters must be installed by the factory, then why aren't better flowing air filters a requirement as well?
Final question: Has anyone that drives a C63 gotten better than 25.2 mpg with stock paper filters and the carbon filters in place.

ROW = Rest of the World (Doesn't have the Carbon filters)
No Carbon = He took out the carbon filter
BMC filter = Aftermarket filters (ie. K&N)
Google BMC filter and you should find a bunch of sellers.

if I would have been driving 55-50 mph. Maybe one day I'll try that.

25.2
and in only 43mi?
But in all reality, we didn't buy these cars for its fuel efficiency.

I don't even fill up completely at the gas station some of the time becausee I like the car to feel a little lighter. haha
Keep practicing.

for now. I will see what happens when I cruise at 60 mph for a sustained trip.
