I think my car has averaged 15.4 mpg for its 20,000 mile life.

I also have a bad habit of slowing down in the tunnel to create open space in front of me and lowering all my windows, then flooring it to hear my car. My wife hates that ****. lol Hopefully, there aren't cops watching the cameras in the tunnel.

I haven't had the opportunity to enjoy tunnels yet, but I'd be right there with you if and when I encounter a tunnel.

But, I did finally hear [from outside the car] what a C63 (mine) sounds like when it's driving around. I had my brother drop me off at an intersection the other night and I let him drive it around the block. I couldn't believe it. I think I heard him over 1/2 mile away. It sounded like thunder a little bit and I don't even have headers.

I switched places with him and I took off in "Sport" and when I came back to get him, I made sure to get on the breaks so the car would downshift at higher rpms and make that sweet music. haha

He was floored. He said it was awesome.

My car has BMC filters, ROW box tops, no carbons, and Hankook rear tires. Everything else is stock (except for the door pins ).

This thread is meant to be lighthearted and fun. Who can show the best fuel economy for our pollution machines?

But, this thread is also meant to be serious. "Why" you ask? Because, if I'm getting 6.2 mpg better fuel economy than what is advertised for this car, driving at 73-74 mph, which isn't exactly the optimal speed to maximize fuel economy, then I'm mad about three things:

1) Did this car really need a gas guzzler tax?

2) With all the "need for green" talk, fears about carbon emissions (lame carbon filters), energy independence!!!, I can drive my car in a way that gets 6.2 mpg better fuel economy than what is advertised.

3) If carbon filters must be installed by the factory, then why aren't better flowing air filters a requirement as well?

Final question: Has anyone that drives a C63 gotten better than 25.2 mpg with stock paper filters and the carbon filters in place.

YOUR C63 car has BMC filters, ROW box tops, no carbons CAN YOU EXPLAIN TO ME WHAT IS ROW BOX TOPS AND WHERE DID YOU GET THOSE BMC FILTERS AND NO CARBONS ? I NEED HELP ...

ROW = Rest of the World (Doesn't have the Carbon filters)
No Carbon = He took out the carbon filter
BMC filter = Aftermarket filters (ie. K&N)

Google BMC filter and you should find a bunch of sellers.

I have reached 24.5 mpg on a 20 mile trip going 55-60. Overall, I usually get 17.5 according to the cars computer, which is typically .8 to 1 mpg higher than calculating by hand.....

Even with the car's computer reading high, it looks like my mpg is still pretty strong because my speed for the trip was 73 mph avg. I feel like I could have reached 26 mpg if I would have been driving 55-50 mph. Maybe one day I'll try that.

Somehow I was reading you hit 24.1 mpg driving 130 mph and I was shocked.

I have done 24MPG and change in a mid 70mph long HWY trips . Definately could have been a 25 mpg if it wasn't because I have done these trips in altitude.

Decided to try my luck on my trip back from AC tonight (~124mi).. Took every ounce of willpower but I babied the crap out of it (lol) and only manged a 21.7mpg. New personal best though, previous was 20.9mpg over ~200mi.

25.2 and in only 43mi?

But in all reality, we didn't buy these cars for its fuel efficiency.

That is true.

I don't even fill up completely at the gas station some of the time becausee I like the car to feel a little lighter. haha

Keep practicing. jk

The best I can have is 26.56 mpg (if my calculation is right from 11.24km/liter). PLS see the attached picture. I was a little bit surprised since it's after ECU tuned but not yet header being installed. I just cruised @ 90km/hr(56 mph) in c mode and with 265/35/18 rear tires. The rest are all stock.

for now.

I will see what happens when I cruise at 60 mph for a sustained trip.
