There is something about the simplicity and directness of a NA engine that I really admire. Seems to me that almost all of the "legendary" supercar engines were NA (Enzo, Carrera GT, All Lambos, McLaren F1, Pagani, etc.) with the only exceptions being the 911 Turbo and the Ferrari F40. Seriously, would you rather have the engine from the 458 Italia or the GTR? Yeah....me too. The only time engineers resort to FI is when they are forced to by either new racing rules or new governament regulations. Even Porsche used an NA engine in the Carrera GT, and they are the world experts in turbocharging for over 30 years. I had numerous issues with my BMW 335 engine (they still haven't figured out how to make a high pressure fuel pump for the direct injection system, and from what I've heard other manufacturers have the same issue). Add to that all the intercoolers, plumbing, valves, air-flow sensors, higher operating temps, etc. and it's just not a very elegant engineering solution. I'm sure FI is the wave of the future its unavoidable, but I'm gonna enjoy my good old fashioned big-block V8 until they pry it from my cold dead hands. Screw the environmental movement. Where do they think the electricity comes from for their Volts and Leafs? That's right, power stations that burn coal and oil. I'd rather burn my own oil, thank you very much. Long live the M156 baby!!

^^^ What you say is true, however, like it or not, FI is the future. Smaller displacement engines supplemented by FI!! Uncle Sam says it HAS to be, so thats they way IT WILL BE!! Enjoy the big block NOW, because hybrids, diesels and smaller displacement FI engines are the future of the auto biz!! Its not only fuel mileage, its CAFE, CARB, EPA, state emissions etc etc that dictate what we'll be seeing in the near future. Damn the consumer tastes!!

I do find it hard to believe that MB will make the new C Class AMG any slower than the current C63 and most certainly it will be a lil bit faster/quicker stock , thus you'll have an incentive to get the latest and the greatest.

Let's look at the M157 (5.5TT) as the starting point. I don't know if it is, but I would suspect that the 4.7TT is the same basic architecture as the M157 but with less bore, stroke, or both. Displacement is only ~85% of the M157. The M157's dry weight is ~450 lbs, from the sources I've seen. A 4.7TT "M157-lite" could come in around 430 lbs or fewer... couldn't it?
From what I have seen, the two TT engine will be based on the same block architecture and use different rotating assemblies. I don’t think you will see a 20lb reduction in the rotating assembly alone. Also since the block will be the same and the bore will be smaller for the 4.7, the cylinder walls will be thicker making the block heavier. Below is link with some specs on the new 4.7 TT.

That is exactly why I bought the C63 when I did. Clearly the end of an era. Sort of like the new 1.6 litre turbos for Formula 1 in 2013. Sure, I will still watch the races, but if you never saw and heard the 3 litre V10s from the late 90s and early 2000s (900+ hp and 19,000+ rpm) then you missed what was probably the pinnacle of motorsports in our lifetime. Newer is not necessarily better.

I do miss those V10s.... I had a three day weekend ticket at the ring, what a sound.

Coming off lease in September. I think I'm going to order an end of model year 2011 C63 sedan if they will be putting the 4.7 into the 2012 C63 sedan. If not I might just get a 2012. I really love the sound our engines make.

I am looking into a C63 2011 with P31 BUT am disappointed that the LSD is no longer an option for 2011??

I agree. I would love a factory installed LSD since I lease for a 2011 order. I'm not that big on the P31 though. Probably get the other options and leave that one off. Also, I will skip on the keyless go. I hate that option.

Well **** me in the ***. Proverbially. Yet another reason I should NOT have sold the 63.

The option is located after MBRACE down towards the bottom of the list.

Yep. I see it under the C63 model review under Options but I don't see it when you Build Your Own.

If your such a genius why don't you back up your opinions with facts?

Texas Engineer just gave a very thorough explanation of how the 4.7 TT might be heavier then the 6.2 N/A, and he gave very solid data supporting that.

M278 and M157 are the same.

believe me, I saw both engines on the table, and you can not tell which one is which when its bolted, unless you measure the bore/stroke.

so M157 is a stroked M278, and some parts on M157 starts are the same in M278.

M278 is the 500TT engine
M157 is the 63TT engine.

Edit:

new AMG C class will have V8TT 4.0 450hp, 600NM * non performance package figures.

I would seriously hope it will be more than that.
Heck, the regular Cadillac CTS will be getting a 420 HP V6 for 2014:

GTR comes with a 3.8L V6 with 545HP.

I think you need to give AMG with a 4.0L V8 a chance. I highly doubt they will leave us needing more power. Especially when the tuners get a hold of this one.

I would rather have the 5.5TT in the "C" class but AMG knows what they are doing.

They are getting 360HP out of the new 2.0L 4 cylinder in the CLA45 AMG.
