C63 as entry level AMG?

This was bouncing around my brain a few months ago, and someone's comment in another thread revived the thought:

I think there's very little argument that the C63 is the "entry" level AMG, but I bought it because unlike an E or an S AMG, the C63 is a quick, fun car, not a boat with a truly excessive engine. The lightweight (ok, relatively lightweight) layout + a hugely capable engine (modded or not) was the combination that led me to choose the C over the E or S. And obviously keeping the $$$ difference in my pocket didn't hurt anyone.

Why did other members choose the C63 over the E, S, SL, etc.?

Looks. Although MB's are classy in general, sometimes you want a little eye candy to go with that ginormous engine. The C class chassis was minimally modified with good taste. I prefer its lavishly good looks to an M3. Under 100K with full options doesn't hurt either. Almost forgot, 4 doors, oh yeah, baby. Fun for the whole family.

That's the main reason i got mine. I had an E55 RENNtech, & while it was quick, it felt like a boat in the handling dept. I test drove an E63 W212 & it felt the same as my E55. After driving my buddy's C63, i knew i wanted one.

That wasn't the question. Why C63 and not E63 or S63.

I always perceived the S class as a corporate car for oldies, and I was never attracted to the E class either (too big for my liking).
The main reason I picked the C63 is because it's a compact sedan, and the meanest looking one! Up to date, I would still pick the C63 over any other sedan in the market.

SL63 didn't cross my mind because I wanted a four door, but that's a ***king beast to be reckoned with!

Although half of my previous post might have strayed from the original question, the first word of that paragraph was "Looks."

Bottom line is the C63 is the baddest 4 door luxury sedan ever made in its price range! When I first started the c63 I was sold!

OP do you miss the c63 compared to the gt500? I'm on the fence between selling my c63 to my brother and getting either a gt500 or Ls3 corvette. I love my c63, but i really want a 6mt.

Although it's true the C63 AMG is the least expensive AMG model, it was truly designed to compete and beat the BMW E90 M3...which it does in a straight line anyway. The M3 is also BMW's least expensive M as well, but as we know, these are the more "enthusiast cars" compared with the more expensive AMG's and M's.

I had the chance to autocross a Z06 and wasn't all that impressed. I guess for the $$ it's performance has decent value for money, but I'd rather spend the extra $$ on a Porsche.

I agree, but within AMG, the C is the obvious choice for the label "entry level"

As you may have noticed in my signature, I do regret selling my C63. Now there are obviously tons of opinions and factors involved, but here are my top regret-causers:

1. I love the involvement of a manual transmission, but no stick compares to the speed and pure fun the paddle shifters were (in my eyes)

2. The GT500 is a tank, albeit the fastest tank you've ever heard of, but nonetheless a tank. Right now in my life, I think a quick & light(er) car suits me more.

3. I don't have kids, but stuffing all the hockey stuff into a coupe with a small trunk opening had proven to be difficult.

4. The live rear axle, while not a dealbreaker, makes itself known at least twice every trip I go on (even to the grocery store).

5. Let's face it, when compared to the C63, it's a Ford.

Now, I do love the Shelby for its strengths, but I think the C63's strengths are more to my liking.

Sorry to hear it brotha! Just go get another one man!

Or I dunno if you like BMW but the M3 might be a great deal for the handling department.

I loved your C... One of the best sounding/looking cars, I always enjoyed seeing it at Starbucks

I think of it as the enthusiast driver's car of the bunch.

Alright, another question to add to the mix:

If money was not a deciding factor in your decision, would you still have selected the C versus other AMGs (read: not a Veyron, etc.)?

I live in Hong Kong and the roads are quite narrow, as are the parking spaces. It was quite a pragmatic decision - the parking space at my apartment just would not accommodate an E, let alone an S.

I chose the C63 over the E,S,CL, etc. because I think its the most "Sport" oriented AMG out there next to the CLK 63.
The bigger body AMG platforms are amazing as well, but I prefer the C.

I drove a C63, E63, CLS63 and SLK55 at Mont Tremblant on October 4th 2010 along with 8 other MBs and it is still definitely the C for me. I liked the ride, handling, power and feel of the C63 noticeably better than any of the others. I think it is the driver's car of the AMGs aside from the SLS which I did not have the good fortune to drive. It is the size of the car and the fact that it is somewhat stealth that appeal to me as well.

Isn't the Z3M or whatever they call it cheaper?!
