c63 issues?
Hi Everyone,
First post, I have been looking through the forum all morning and have a simple question about the c63. Has anyone really had any issues with their cars? I have been looking through the m5 forum and read horror stories about the SMG and little issues here and there, and the service from BMWNA has steered me away from looking into an m5, plus they praise MBNA service. Don't mind the m3, but dont like the 4 door versions and they look better as a 2 door, also like the c63 since it can be used to haul people around. Plus from what I have been reading, the motor is a real beast once tapped. Just wondering if anyone has had any real issues with the car (electronics, maint, etc)?
Thanks!

First....Welcome! I have 18,000 trouble free miles on my car. Really love it as my DD and am happy with the decision to purchase over the M3, etc. I assume did a forum search? There have been several threads about likes/dislikes of our cars. GL......

And just to correct your original post, the C63's engine is a beast EVEN if left stock. It's an awesome sports sedan, probably one of the bargains of the decade.

Thanks for the prompt reply guys! I have been searching, and I have really found nothing that would cause concern. Everyone seems to be really helpful and knowledgable, Thanks!

My own personal experience has been limited since I only put 1800 miles on mine since I got it and it's now stored for winter.
As others have said, it has been pretty bullet proof so far, obviously there can be a lemon here and there, but most complain about little stuff like consuming oil, weathered bolsters and most of all replacing the tires
It's a great car and I had high hopes for it when I ordered it and after driving it for a short while, I'm amazed the car is as good as I had hoped--not too many things can live up to the hype, this car does for me

I've pretty damn happy so far with my car. No significant issues in over two years of driving it. This stands in contrast to my previous Mercedes.
I think MB may have solved some of their electrical issues that plagued so many of their cars in the early 2000's.

Two years running Kleemann tune with MHP headers, 20,000 miles, lots of sub 12 second passes and 14 track days including Sebring in 100+ temps and the car is problem free!

I have tons of issues with it. It doesnt allow me to keep it stock....it calls me at night while Im in bed, "mod me.....mod me....." Well, it's either my car making that noise, or the gimp I have tied up in my closet. Either way, my issue with this car is that I love driving it way to damn much!

Now I do see alot of users running mods on their C63's. Do you guys not care about the warranty or have you just decided to have with it and hope nothing critical happens?

C63 AMG (P31)
I had some issues when I first got the car. After 2 months into using the car as a daily driver, the power steering failed. As soon as I straightened out the steering wheel after making a right turn out of a parking lot, the car made a really loud screeching noise for about a minute or so down the road. Once I got the chance to turn into a gas station I realized that the car was almost impossible to steer but once the car was in motion it was much easier to maneuver. Mercedes towed the car right away (about an hour wait after calling roadside assistance) and the next morning I was notified that the pump for the power steering failed. Everything was fixed under warranty.
Unfortunately this happened again but this time I was 200+ miles away from home. It was a nice spring morning so I went for a drive to the beach with my girlfriend. As soon as I turn out of the Hilton parking lot SCREEEEEECCHHHHHH!!! I called Mercedes again but this time with a bit more of an attitude. Mercedes was only willing to tow to the nearest dealership and I was suppose to wait until the car was fixed.... some of hotel costs were going to be on Mercedes but hell no i wasn't going to stay there for 4 days (this is how many days it took me to receive my car back the first time this happened) so I ended up speaking to some manager over the phone. Luckily the manager was nice enough to convince Mercedes to hire a private towing company (since no towing contractor of Mercedes would tow my car 200+ miles) all the way back home. Me and my girlfriend were stuck in a 3-seater tow truck for 4 hours. Had a good conversation the whole way though with a nice 63 year old gentleman. Same problem again but this time the pump was leaking. Got it replaced again and luckily no problems since but it sure was a great ordeal. I was paranoid for a while and wanted to sell the car but the more you drive it the more i realized giving it up was not an option. If money is not an issue then go with the monster Merc. 451 foot pounds of torque will smear your face off every time you push that piece of art.

True story: I was changing my rear door pins and accidentally push the pin rod all the way inside the frame (x2), so I chickened out and went to the local dealer to get it fix. They originally quoted the job for about $200 and I agreed. However, at the end of the day the service manager came out and told me they fixed it for FREE!! Now that's good service .

I had a 2008 E60 M5 before buying my new C63. Both cars are great, In my opinion the C63 is a more simpler car to drive and own. They both go through oil, probably the C63 goes through a little more though. I have only owned my car since October and haven't had any issues, in saying that neither did my M5 in 12 months ownership. It's the 05 and 06 M5's that seem to give problems where as all C63's seem to be fairly trouble free.
You won't regret purchasing a C63

Is there any weak link of them? transmission, engine, etc? Does not having LSD stock hurt the traction when launching them? Im trying to decide between a 09 Cts-V or C63 in the next year or two

If I got one it would be stock for a while just for the sake of the warranty I imagine repairs would be costly if not covered under warranty. How long is the warranty for and is it transferable?

Over 25K miles and not a single issue.
Most of us will take a chance and tune it/change exhaust and still be covered under warranty for 99% of the issues. (let's not turn this into a warranty thread, we all know it is a grey area).
It is a DD. I am not babying the car but not treating it like I stole it either.
I did the "mile" event and the car performed flawlessly under the Miami heat and 4 passes.
You can't go wrong with it.
I think the latter M5 are great as well and the eisman exhaust may even sound better than our stock set up.

it doesnt put anymore strain on the car? or is it literally the same motor as the E63 just detuned? So a tune really doesnt effect reliability or durability.
