AMG Academy Winter Event and new AMG helmet
Guys,
Off to the 1st AMG Academy event of 2011 for Winter driving in Arjeplog, Sweden which is near Artic circle this Friday. As with previous posts, I will post pics and videos of these AMG Academy events. Should be interesting to see how the SLS handles on ice/snow. From previous experience at this event the C63 is great fun on the snow. Attached are pics of my new Stand21 AMG helmet - open visor for closed cockpit complete with Hans posts. Had the helmet made for the AMG Academy Masters series this year in Europe which will require Hans device use as the SLS GT3 is the car designated for the series in 2011.
Will post event report next week.

Guys,
Just got back from the event and it was a blast. The cars used were the SLK 55/C63/E63. Weather was good, but 1st day was a bit cool at -30C. My instructor was Bernd Maylander who drives the safety car for F1. Very cool guy and really laid back. Also attending was Volker Mornhinweg who was the CEO of AMG until last year who was there with his wife. Again, great guy and easy going. He now runs the commercial trucking division of MB but clearly continues to be a huge fan of AMG.
Most of the event was done with no ESP on the lake, with the cars having 2.5mm studs in the tires. It is amazing how tail-happy a C63 is on solid ice with no ESP. The E63 was even more so and just the lightest of touches on the gas would through the rear all the way out. Pretty tricky stuff trying to control 500+hp on ice. I have posted pics and some links to videos. I would recommend that if you have the chance to do this event your really should. Not cheap, but it is a great experience.

Now that is how to bury a car! The guys was blast. He owns a SL65 which was tuned by MBK to 1000hp and has been profiled in a few mags.

Here is the C63 ice taxi with rally lamps and 7.5mm studs. The grip was amazing.
Some little gifts from AMG - winter jacket, hat and scarf. Also you will see actual 2.5mm stud on jacket which were installed on all cars.
