Tuning a P31 C63 - worth it?
#26
Ahh, thought it came with a sport suspension like the P30. I wonder why they took that out...
Some good questions on the 2012. Im not sold on the MCT yet. I might just keep my 2010. I buy at the bottom of the year for savings so hopefully I will get some reviews on if its worth it by then.
If I do get the 2012 it will be my last 63 so yes, ill mod the crap out of it and get a new DD and add the 63 to the car list. If not ill do the same with the 2010. Im just waiting on the 2012 reviews.
I still wouldn't get the P31 if it came with it. From what I understand the LSD is a no cost option on the 2012 so thats a no brainer. Otherwise whatever it comes stock is what ill mod from there.

Nice car list too. C63 will be a good addition.

I was going by the advertised 480 crank HP of the P31. Many have said it must be more based on their P31 dyno's. That closes the gap a bit. Id say about 25 to 30 more HP based on the dyno results ive seen from a MHP or OE tune compared to a P31 dyno.
Jeremy from OE will take care of posting the "source and link" soon enough comparing stock P31 to his tuned P31. Im also going to do some Vbox compares with my OE tune vs the stock P31 soon.

IMHO mb was very conservative w the p31 hp #s to not upset their other 63 classes. The p31 was an easy way for them to offer a tune w warranty. The p31 is no joke. Easy 420 whp.

I don't doubt that tuners will be able to squeeze a bit more from a P31 C63... by design, manufacturers leave themselves a greater margin of safety (after all, they're the ones on the hook during the warranty period, plus they don't want to risk manufacturer quality/reliability ratings and losing future sales to their competitors). I just don't expect it to be a gain of "40 or more HP" magnitude. But will be interesting to see; sounds like OE will be tuning DD GT3 RD's car soon, hopefully they capture pre- and post-tuning dyno figures and VBOX data so we can see the results.

Agreed.

On the track or street I think you would see the difference more between the P31 and a tune. Well see!

The P31 is worth the 6K if you want it for an all around upgrade, some aesthetic. For performance only its not worth it.
I guess the real question is the P31 worth it at all. You might be right though about tuning the P31, but why not wait for some results before coming to a conclusion. Unless you have some data im not aware of.

What we have seen is a not so aggressive non p31 tuned C63 vs the P31 without a tune, those numbers looked about even.

We already got some good P31 Vbox data. What we need now is a P31 tuned with vbox data and improvements if any to it. DD GT3 is getting it done with OE tune so well know soon enough how much improvement soon.
