Tuning a P31 C63 - worth it?
I'M considering tuning my C63 (Eurocharged or similar) and was wondering if the gains would be noticeable on an already "p31-ned" car... I don't want to spend the money to gain a couple HP's.
Anyone did it?
Thanks for any help (my wallet would be happy not to tune, but my ***-o-meter would love it!)

Was wondering the same thing. Sent an email to OETuning and they told me that they have tuned P31s with good results. At the time of the email though, they haven't gotten round to doing a dyno but said that the owner's were satisfied. Wonder what that means...

We've tested a P31 (cek's) on the Dynojet and the power results were nearly identical to two Kleemann tuned non-P31 cars on the same dyno. More here -> https://mbworld.org/forums/4189247-post11.html
We also had the same P31 car at a local track rental that went back-to-back vs. a Eurocharged tuned non-P31 car. Just like the dyno results, the track times were nearly identical. More here -> https://mbworld.org/forums/4280480-post91.html

Not worth it unless you want to part yourself with a wad of $100's, void your factory warranty and gain a few HP over what you already have.
Older P30 or standard C63s, IMO it would be "worth it" to wake up the factory de-tuned engine. Unless you plan to go deep into modding w/headers, etc, why bother.

OP could always put the car on a little diet.

Read this thread and you'll see that the P31 is basically identical to most after market tunes. More aggressive (e.g. "Stage 2" or "Stage 3") tunes are available of course, but that's not what Jerry is offering.

Not sure what Jerry is offering, but ill put my OE tuned up against a stock P31 and I bet I walk it.
The E63 even sees gains from a tune and it has more stock HP than the p31. I see Jeremy chimed in so I guess well see the results soon enough.
@VCA_AMG Speaking of wad's of $100's... How much was the P31?
I think the P31 is worth it if you tune it. Without the tune you will get better results with while spending less money just getting a tune without the P31.
Just my 2 cents.. Let me know if anyone with a P31 is in Long Island NY ill be happy to run em..

To me, the P31 is a choice one makes when they want a tune with a warranty and some lighter brakes from the factory.
Otherwise, if they want to make more power than a P31 car makes for less money, why not just get a non P31 C63, install some Evosport rotors, and get a tune. Maybe even modify the exhaust a little.

I personally don't understand the appeal of tuning a P31 car. I can understand tuning a non-P31 C63, because its nuts are partially hamstrung from the factory.

Looks like you have a pretty special C63.

I would do a tune if just to be able to remove the speedlimiter, cause over here runs beyond the speedlimiter are possible without going to jail

I understand though what your getting at. If you are nervous about the warranty the P31 is a good solution for you. I think however you will be left behind against the more aggressive tunes.
I haven't heard of one case where a warranty was void due to a tune. If you know of any feel free to make me nervous.

Lighter weight internals possibly responding better to an aggressive tune. The P31 is still factory limited.

Something tells me I couldn't make you nervous.
But, no, I don't think the tunes are causing any warranty issues. I just feel like the P31 is a good value for what it is. Even though tuning a C63 isn't going to break it -- it's a race inspired engine, as we know -- a P31 is "tuned."
Obviously a more aggressive tune can be had than the P31. But, for my taste, I think a P31's level of power would suit me fine.
I really don't know to what extent the lighterweight internals help these cars go faster. Realistically, so long as you don't install power adders, the internals of a non-P31 car would probably hold up just as well as the forged, lighter weight internals from the P31's.

I haven't had the pleasure of being in a P31 or driving one but I am sure its much better than a non p31 for sure. That with the piece of mind that you can never have warranty issues is definitely worth it. On the track no question the P31 is superior with the better breaks, suspension and LSD.
I think the lighter weight internals possible let the 6.2 rev up a bit faster but that's just a theory I have no evidence at all.
When I bought my 2010 I thought about the P31 and decided I would be happier with a tune instead of sinking the 3K into the P31. I will probably get into a 2012 so I saved a bit of money if that's even possible with these money hogs!

I think P31's have the same suspension as non P31 cars.
See, for what you wanted getting the OE tune made more sense. And if you get the 2012, looks like every step of the way, you're getting the C63 experience that you want.
Now, the question is, would you get a 2012 P31 (if that's still what the package is called)? With the stronger trans, it might be cool to do what you did with the 2010, but get some LT's (or OE mid lengths), some silencers and a pretty aggressive tune.

Some good questions on the 2012. Im not sold on the MCT yet. I might just keep my 2010. I buy at the bottom of the year for savings so hopefully I will get some reviews on if its worth it by then.
If I do get the 2012 it will be my last 63 so yes, ill mod the crap out of it and get a new DD and add the 63 to the car list. If not ill do the same with the 2010. Im just waiting on the 2012 reviews.
I still wouldn't get the P31 if it came with it. From what I understand the LSD is a no cost option on the 2012 so thats a no brainer. Otherwise whatever it comes stock is what ill mod from there.
