Transmission shifts up and then down during WOT

Guys, I would like to check with you all, today I was on the freeway, my speed was about 100km/h (about 60mph) in 5th gear and in sports mode. I floored the throttle and the car seems hesitated a bit because it shifted to 6th gear momentarily then dropped to 3rd gear and the car accelerated rapidly. This also happens on lower gears also when i floored the throttle. Is that normal?

What I like!
Sounds like the Adaptive Transmission at work. Boo. The one thing I don't like about the C63.

Were you cruising around, or driving moderately, before you floored it? The Adaptive feature makes this transmission absolutely lazy unless you are on it all the time. Then when you begin driving hard, it shifts for fuel economy instead of performance. It will wake up, but only after a few hard runs. I've tried to get around this by driving in C mode for when I am cruising... which, because of traffic, is most of the time. I'm still not sure if adaptations affect both automatic modes (C, S) uniformly, but I think it helps to switch modes depending on what you expect of the car.

Does anyone know if the MCT is better with this "adaptive" feature? Meaning... it is predictable, instead of adaptive? That alone would push me toward upgrading to a 2012 +

add: one way you can get around the surprise upshift is to make sure you floor it past the resistance point at the bottom of the throttle. You may still get a moment of hesitation but you should get the lowest gear available.

Thanks for the info, I was driving moderately before i floored it. I hope the new MCT in 2012 model will be way better than ours
