Oil Color - Is this normal?

I was checking the oil level before adding some oil today and noticed that the color of the oil on the dipstick was very dark - almost dark yellow/brown. It seems to be darker than the last time I added oil, and I am pretty sure it is much darker than the first time I checked oil levels during the first 1k miles. Is this normal, or should I get the oil replaced?

My car has around 3k miles on it at the moment, and I have added a quart of Mobil 1 0W-40 oil every 1k miles.

Oil gets dark after normal use, it means nothing. Don't go by color, go by millage/use. Oil does not stay the same color as it is in the bottle after some use....

I am more concerned why you need to be adding a full quart of oil every 1k miles? that is not normal..... Are you sure you are not overfilling it? these cars or almost any other car i can think of does not need a quart of oil every 1k miles under normal use.

You seem to be stressing over your oil to much if you ask me....

You are stressing about your oil too much.

DO NOT fill up oil every 1K miles. You don't want to overfill your oil because this will do some serious damage to your engine (busted bearings, blown crankcase seals, etc...)
The only time you should put in oil is when your dip stick reads low or you get a message on your dash saying "Check engine oil at next refueling".

I totally agree we your assesment. Just to add, if your unsure about something, call your dealer, and talk to a mech, or service advisor.

Thanks for the replies! I only add oil when the dipstick reads low (at or below the lower notch). I was at the dealer today and the AMG certified service advisor told me that it is normal for the engine to eat around 1 quart of oil per 1000 miles, and that is exactly what I have been noticing. It may also be a result of some spirited driving on my part.

And that Is the same thing that I was told by my friend who is also an AMG Master Tech. I typically don't check my oil until the car tells me. But I should start checking at least bi-monthly.

1Q per 1k miles? That seems a bit excessive.

I have only added 1/2 Qt since I've owned my C63 since July with 7700 miles on it. I think that if you've got yor foot buried on the accelerator then yes, your car will consume more oil than normal.

The tech is full of crap if he says the car goes threw 1 quart of oil every 1,000 miles. That is simply not true. Maybe if it was at redline for a few minutes straight every day. But even aggressive driving, not true....

I'm a smart guy and this my first AMG, but my tech said that the engine could consume up to a qt per 1000 miles. Will it probably not unless your full on throttle all the time, then yes it will consume. But probably not to that extreme.
