Launching the C63?

I just read an interesting article on launch control in the latest issue of Car & Driver (June 2011). They list about two dozen cars which currently have launch control, one of which is the C63. Does anyone know how to use this?

I'm not looking to drag race, but I do occasionally like to launch fast. When I floor it with ESP on or in sport mode, I find that the car cuts power for about a second (or at least it feels that long) before really starting to go, and it's getting annoying.

By the way, the article mentions testing the 911 Turbo S and getting a 0-60 of 2.8 s, and peak acceleration of almost 1.0 g.

Could be the 2012 C63, it gets that trick race start feature that the e AMG has with the mct.

You may be right, though the article specifically says that the listed cars "currently" offer the launch control.

The 2012 C63 will have an MCT transmission which should use launch control.

-Put the car in ESP Sport
-Turn the knob (near the shifter) into RS mode
-Hold down brake with left foot while right foot is fully pressed down on the gas pedal.
-build up the revs
-Immediately let go of the brake.

So I guess that means the 2011 C63 does not have launch control?

Only if it has the MCT transmission.
Does the new face lifted model come out in 2011 or 2012?

Not for 2011, 2012 will have MCT and LC, just like the current E63.

Sounds like the 2012 will definitely have launch control and the 2011 doesn't. So that leads to the question of how to best launch the 2011.

Turn off ESP completely (or partly)? Use S mode? Rev the engine while holding down the brake, then drop the brake? And is the latter bad for the car?

You could do that, but it will end up with a massive burnout, and that's about it. On street tires, use M mode, ESP off, 1st gear, brake down, gas it to about 1000-1250 rpm, drop brake, and modulate the gas. Get ready for significant wheel hop.

did you notice a difference in the wheel hop between different stages in the tire lifespan? For instance, did it hop whether new or worn, between different brands? I hate wheel hop and found that tires that were not overly soft would not hop or if the tires were on the higher psi level.

I am getting mine tomorrow, in the pouring rain.

Thanks, I'll give that a try, along with trying the same thing except in S mode. I finished my break-in period last week, so now it's time to play
