Dim Sport- Tuning

Hey guys, I know there is a huge fanbase for OEtuning/ EuroCharged but wanted to see if anyone has used Dim Sport for a tuning option and what the results were. I have a trusted tuner and Ive had boosted car with piggyback systems, boost based meth, etc so id prefer actual feedback rather than "my XXXXX company tune rocks". Ive been down that road before and dont want to go there in this thread. Thanks

^^ I never heard Dim Sports tuning in my life. The popular tunes for Mercedes are (in no specific order):
Cargraphic
MHP
evosport
oetune
eurocharge
Dynocomp(custom tune)
Renntech
Kleeman
and I am missing other companies like Vividracing. Perhaps more people on this forum can chime in.

Thanks for the input but not really what i was looking for, those are tuners/tunes. Dim Sport is tuning software. I found some more info on it and it seems like it has some good features. I am not a tuner so i wanted to see if anyone has used it or saw limitations with the software. A great tuner with bad equip can lead to worse results than a bad tuner with great equip. Here the info

Good find. Looks like we can buy the software and load it to the ecu with the MyGenius. I might have to get this! I want to run my C63 on E85.

I'm with you. I've done my own tuning on my Honda with Chrome and on my Evo with Tactrix and ECUFlash through openecu.org. I have unlimited access to a mustang dyno.

You have many great options that you can go with in the M156 tuning. There are a coulpe I would recommend that you stay away from

Good options:

- Weistec Engineering
- PP-Performance
- OE tuning
- Eurocharged
- Velos Designworks
- MKB
- Dynocomp
- Evotech
- HMS
- SKN
- Kleeman
- Carlsson
- Techtec
- Vtech

Stay Away from:

- MHP
- Renntech
- Evosport
- Vaeth
- Brabus
- Lorinser
- Kicherer tuning

Why these two? Renntech is expensive but they put down some good results. Brabus I really have no experience with.

Every post should have a disclaimer on the bottom. These are opinions only

Not 100% on this, but I think that some of the better known options actually use Dimsport hardware/software for their tuning offerings.

At least, I've definitely heard of them mentioned before in the MB/AMG market, but more as a hardware/tool used - not a direct competitor to the companies listed above.

EDIT: nevermind, I am 100% certain that Dimsport flashing tools are used by some of the more well-known vendors. Specifically, the new My Genius tool.

I don't think people are looking for a competitor to the companies above, but for a tool to tune their cars themselves.

You might be right... however, I doubt the market for people looking to tune their own M156 is very large. If anything went wrong with the trial and error, R&D testing phase - a mistake could be ruinously expensive.

Dimsport is similar to a Cobb accessport that is a tool that loads software, that's how I understand it

I think we're saying the same thing. Dimsport is a company, like Cobb. My Genius is like Accessport, an OBDii flash-loading tool.

Does Dimsport offer canned tunes, though? Or simply the interface?

interface but the code is all hex, have fun with that one lol.

You are still going to need the maps (unlocked ecu) as well as know what hex values translate to what setting on what map. Its not as simple as click here to change fueling etc. It could be very dangerous to attempt without knowing what your doing!

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Dangerous to one's wallet, at the very least.

What's a crate M156 go for these days? I've heard figures all over the map, but aren't they $45,000+ or something ridiculous?

Jake, is this My Genius tool the same one you guys are now using? Looks pretty slick.

You can find the maps by using their Race software. Seems they've done all the hard work for us! I'm really contemplating on getting this.

I already have the New Genius.

DimSport is a tool - the same way HP Tuners & EFI-Live & SCT are tools.
These software tools/packages enable a skilled operator/calibrator to interrogate and edit many (not all) of the tables/maps/algo's.

Be prepared to part with ~$20k to get the package, and a lot of hours to learn it, and lots of rags to clean up the oil that will leak from the holes your rods may make in the sump.

Everyone is such debbie downers regarding tuning.

Let's just call it a black art and leave in the hands of a chosen few? :\

I know it's your opinion but care to elaborate. There is no one that knows more about Mercedes tuning then Renntech. Yes they are expensive but you get what you pay for. There's a reason that many mercedes dealers are also Renntech dealers.

It's just hardware.... Likes like selling you a motherboard... You still have to put everything together and install windows on a computer. Ya the computer comes with DOS on it, but do you really want to be messing with DOS?

Don't try to reinvent the wheel, just buy the eurocharged or OEtuning... Problem solved
