Should you be "proud" of your C63?

In another thread, someone made a comment about choosing cars we can be proud of. That got me thinking ...

What's there for us to be proud of as far as owning a C63? After all, we didn't design or build the car. Maybe one could be proud of being able to afford one, but the wealth of people who own the car varies widely, including some who can barely afford a used one and others who can afford a new Maybach (or a bunch of them), plus wealth depends at least a little on luck anyway. Should we be proud of having the discernment to choose the C63? Perhaps, but there are lots of good cars out there, and the one you choose is largely a matter of preference once you get beyond a basic utility car.

Now, having said all that, if I search myself, I suppose a part of me does like what the car says about me, considering that its a Benz and also a bada$$ without pleading for people to look at it (or me). So maybe there's an element of pride there after all?

What do you think? Is your car a reflection of who you are? Is it meant to broadcast something about your taste, personality, affluence, machismo, etc., maybe unconsciously? If so, what specifically is your C63 meant to say about you?

I realize that many will say they got a C63 because they like the car, it's fun to drive, reliable, a good value, etc. I don't disagree with any of that, but I'm trying to probe what the car says about its owners, especially given that it's a relatively rare car with a unique blend of refinement and rawness (which somehow works!).

The car you picked definitely represents part of you. Taste, wealth, personality, etc. And I do think all MB owners (not just AMG owners) should be proud of themselves because without hard work and recognition, there will be no MB ownership.

i am proud of all the vehicles i own........but i am more proud of creating the works of art from those vehicles . to me stock is boring , so that's the reason i'm an aftermarket addict . anyone can buy a vehicle but few can create a masterpiece from that vehicle

lol this is a interesting thought...

I love my car and everything about it. The speed, reliability, all that is super. The reason i got this one was because around my town the "cool" car is an m3, and there are a tone of them, i just wanted to get something different. It is my first car and it is just different. I am only 20 years old and i felt like this would be the true "cool" car

I am just proud that I have done some things right in my life to be in a position to get this amazing car. There is no better feeling than driving the car you want, not settling for something that leases better or is cheaper. Anyone who has this car must be a huge car guy.

To the OP...I'm fairly certain I'm the one that said we buy cars we should be proud of...

This is what I meant...
I'm proud to be an auto enthusiast.

I take pride in caring for my cars well, for knowing them well, and for loving cars since I was 5yrs old. I'm proud to have been a subscriber to Road & Track for over 20 years.

I'm proud to pay $4+ a gallon just to burn it up at 9mpg if I want to.

I take pride in knowing that my car is highly engineered, in appreciating a handbuilt AMG engine, knowing the craftsmanship that goes into it, and for not buying my car as a status symbol.

I take pride in being an advocate for automobiles as an investment in my soul and mental health, even when others may believe that an automobile is merely transportation.

So yes, I do take pride in choosing certain cars, as they are indeed a reflection of who I am and the decisions I make. Anyone that doesn't understand that can jump in a lake. I do not buy cars for anyone except ME. I'm secure in the things I like, and I like fast, powerful and well engineered driver's cars.

As Churchill once said, "I am easily satisfied with the best." So true.

Living in So Cal just makes all of this that much better, because I can enjoy my cars year 'round the way they're meant to be enjoyed.

I feel blessed that I can have a C63.

I enjoy it immensely.

But I have always had a problem with saying "thank you" when someone says "nice car!". It just doesn't feel right for me to take it as a compliment because I know they're not complimenting me, and likely not complimenting anything I've done. They are commenting that it's a nice car. So I commiserate by saying something like, "Yea, it really is a lot of fun." or "I really dig it too."

With my FJ40 I feel differently though. In that case I _AM_ proud of the work I put in restoring it. I did it all by myself with my own hands and it was hard fraking work. So when I'm driving it and someone says "Cool rig". I'll say "Thank you, I think it's cool too."

We can talk about the car, and we can talk about the people who own the car. For me, both are equally interesting.

I am proud to trump and drown out the corvette beside me last night, poor guy could barely hear his car beside me on WOT....then telling me at the next light that my car is not stock.....replying proudly to him "bone stock, right off the show room floor"

LOL! I have to admit that I've enjoyed the few occasions when I couldn't resist leaving other cars/drivers with sporty pretensions in the dust, with my raucous exhaust note taunting them as they receded behind me.

Well I almost got a 135 coupe instead of the c63, but thank God my wife convince that we can afford a C63. I never looked back ever since. I'm proud that the hard work I put in life finally got me a "nice" car that I can enjoy on a daily basis.

I never thought I would be able to afford a car like this at this point in my life, but look at me now. *teeheehee* Every time I let her rip at WOT I gain a few seconds of my life back.

See I always wondering what to say when someone says "nice car", do you say thanks? goes back to fact that I didn't build the car, so who am I to say thanks? or are you saying thank you for the comment? Usually happens at the gas station or car wash...
