Torn between C63 AMG vs. Jaguar XFR
Hello everyone, I am totally new to this website but I need your expert in deciding these 2 fantastic cars. I plan on making the purchase in the next 3 days and these 2 vehicles made the short list. I know this is a MB forum but if there's anyone that can provide an honest opinion, feel free to add your comment!
1. 2009 MB C63 AMG silver, fully loaded minus the performance package
2. 2010 Jaguar XFR, black fully loaded with everything
both have low mileage, clean, and accident free
any thoughts?
Thanks

Any known issues with C63 AMG? Someone enlighten me with some detailed explanation between the two please....I know these two cars arent direct competitors and I did not find one website that compares these two.

The XFR is more like a GT vs. the C63 is like a muscle. No major issue for the C63 that I have known. So this is really down to a personal choice.

You will no doubt encounter reliablility issues with the Jag, my brother test drove a brand new XFR last summer and the one the dealer had on the lot already had some electrical gremlins on the test drive and certain features werent working already. Buyer beware that told us.

I know a guy that bought one a year or so back. Took it to the track earlier this year, and it was bad (worse than his gt500 by a long shot) and had to be taken to the dealer to take it out of safe mode.
I can't say the C63 loves getting beaten on, but it's certainly better than the Jag.

I had a last gen Jag XK and the Jag's reliability was the opposite of its reputation (meaning: it was a tank and nothing ever went wrong with it).
I do agree if you want a cruiser on the highway for long trips, the XFR wins out.
I doubt the XFR can be tracked very well (or autox'd, etc).
Top Gear did review the XFR very positively as a cruiser though. I agree that it's more a competitor to the E63 (but is it priced more against the C63 in this case?)

Agree w/most posts...
Both are fine vehicles.
To the point: My father-in-law owns a car repair shop. His co-worker's son is a master technician for Jaguar. My father-in-law, coincidentally, told me last week that Jaguar, according to this technician, is not making much money, b/c Jaguar's reliability has proven to be quite strong. Hence, Jag's service dept is not bringing in much capitol b/c new Jags are proving to be very reliable. Ford has it's hands in Jaguar, so I can believe this turn around. I'm sure our current economy isn't helping Jag's (& the rest of the Auto industry) financial concerns much either, especially when you consider that Jaguar is a specialty/luxury brand only vehicle.
Of interest, our local MB dealership has been attempting to lure this master technician to MB the past few years... I don't want to read much into this, but it does have me thinking/wondering...
Interesting, eh?
My zwei Pfennig...

I was also down to these 2 last year.
The Jag is a beautiful piece. More of a GT car though. It rides like a bigger car, though oddly bumpy at low speeds I thought. It pulls strongly and smoothly at highway speeds. I thought the steering was pretty good. The interior was interesting: rising shift *** and rotating vents when you push the pulsing chrome push start button on the center console. Not sure about the touchscreen nav system. Has some tech the merc lacks in the US: eg, adaptive cruise, front and rear parktronic, hand motion swipe on/off lights, a couple of other things I can't reremember. Cool interior ambient light colors and quality materials. Though like someone else's experience it already had some electronic gremlins. The adaptive suspension didn't work b/c of some charger issue, etc. FWIW consumer reports rates it as least reliable. But pulls a lot of cachet I think. When I was showing the brochure to friends at work I could tell the girls were really interested.
However, the Merc felt more solidly built and drives like a smaller/tighter car. The throttle response is unbelievable and better than the FI'd XFR. The exhaust note is leagues more aggressive. OVerall I liked the feel of the merc more. Though respect to the XFR.
I would recommend test driving a p31 w/ LSD if you haven't already. I felt the engine was more responsive than the non-p31, revved easier(lighter forged engine parts.)
Good luck with your choice.
