H&R coilover install, ...typical cost?

I was so excited that the cost of the units themselves was affordable (compared to KW/Bistein/etc...), that I hadn't really factored in the install.

I'm was qouted 9 hours, ...that seems a bit much, especially at $100 an hour, but then I remembered paying $800 for my STI coilover set up (though, that included alignment and corner balancing)

Thoughts? ...is this what i'm in for by owning a German car now? LOL

Thanks for the replies, ....i've already called a few local shops. One has quoted 3-4 hours which seems more reasonable, ...but their experience is minimal on Mercedes. Since i'm a virgin to these cars, is there anything that much different between doing a typical install on this versus say a Subaru as far as a coilover install would go?

... I guess my point is, I'm sure anyone would do it cheaper to get the job, but I obviously want an experienced tech doing this.

Call Sunil at motorwerks of houston 832-419-8084, tell him james@acg sent you.

We charge $350 for coilover installations, 9 hours is way too much... even if we charged for the coilover install, alignment and corner balancing you would be at most $750.

9 hours is way too much. I was quoted $250 - $350 from a local shop up here in Canada.

That actually was at Motorwerks. They are doing the Kleeman shorty header install for me, before Eurocharge retunes and dynoes the car again. That rate was 11-12 hours, but we agreed on 8 at $100 an hour. I do beleive he does great work, just at a premium price. I'm guessing they looked up the labor time on AllData which does list it at 8.9 hrs on a 2010 C63. I just find if difficult to swallow, when obviously members here are paying half that. He did agree to $800 for the install, but I don't believe that includes alighment and corner balancing (which was my tab last year for a coilover, alignment and corner balance on my STI at another Houston shop).

Again, I hate to be "that guy" who price shops and goes back and forth looking for the best price, ...but $250-400 is a BIG difference than $800-900. Unless there's something I'm missing about an C63 suspension install versus any other high-performance car, I just can't justify paying double.

Wow... 9 hours to install coilovers? That sounds unreasonable... I would look elsewhere.

Wow, and now i've called a Houston MB specialist "Autohaus Stuttgart" and they claimed the 9 hours is fair. ...however, they also highly recommended not modifying anything on the car. ...what fun is that?

...so I'm back at square one.

you should be able to find someone in Houston that can do the job . i don't think you need a Mercedes specialist to do coilovers . i'm in El Paso and i found a shop that did it in 3.5 hours . try finding a shop that works on tuners ( honda , acura , etc. ) . i would think they can do it for you

You may want to try drivers source.

http://blog.driversource.com/mercedes-benz-service

They have some high end rides parked outside there place. I've never used them but I was looking into them for my LSD. I had a not so good experience at Motorworks.

I think Driver Source is more expensive than Motorwerks, ...i've done some work with them too. LOL

....what was your "experience" with MotorWerks? Feel free to PM if you'd like.
