There have been conflicting sources of production forecasts. I have heard the same 600 unit production run and also heard that there is unlimited run with no defined numbers. My bet is that if pick-up is strong enough they will go for unlimited. The reality is AMG is a seperate P&L within MB group and they will leverage the demand for max $. The C63 has been their biggest commercial success as far as numbers go so I would anticipate that they will run production as long as there is strong demand.

I may be going to the Nurburg Ring in the morning if it doesnt rain too much and check out some DTM action. Wanted to take my son this Sunday to the race but I have weekend duty (work) Sat and Sun so we are going tomorrow and hoping to see the new Black Series.

My dealer is trying to convince me to sign now, because he says, that only 5 will come to Belgium, and 2 are already sold ...
I did read on the net, that all the Canadian cars are sold already ! and that one customer won a VIP trip to the German GP, where the car was shown.

I really don't know what I should do, ....

If it's any consolation, every article I've read up to this point says that production will be unlimited.

 

Of course he is trying to convince you. He s gonna make money of the sale.. What can he lose? Absolutely nothing, and for sure they will be producing them as much as people order them. He just trying to make a sale with some nonsense. I think he is trying to make you think that you wont be able to have one if you don buy now. I honestly think he is full of crap=) Maybe I am wrong..its just my guess

 

Ok, hold on. Why would AMG produce an unlimited number of THIS particular Black Series when there is absolutely no precedent for doing it? I bet they could have sold a bunch more CLK BSs, but they stopped at whatever number they stopped at. Any reasoning other than simple profit boosting?

 

I agree with your thinking here as all BS have been limited production vehicles. I think they might be testing the waters to see what demand will be like and then once this becomes clear, then set production number. I think the car will not be as exclusive as CLK/SL/SLK and this is the segment of the market where the $ are at. I think they were caught off guard by the demand that was and still exists for CLK BS (hence the release of the SL BS so quickly) and this is probably why production #s were on the lower end of scale. They are a business afterall and they need to through $ up to corporate at the end of the day.


Patriek, I would go ahead and place deposit on order and leave it at that. There is still alot of unknowns on the car - option pricing, colors, etc. Production does not start for some time so it would be better to place order with deposit only (no full payment) and then see how things go. If you decide to bail on sale then I am sure you can always sell the build slot to someone else. Curious, what was base price they are asking for Belgium?

I just got a call from the salesman, and he stated that he got a "confidential" mail (so no forward possible..) with extra info. Afterall, there was nothing very new in the mail, but again stating that the car has limited to 600, and only 4 for Belgium and some pricing. The car will be made from januari till may 2012. The car in Belgium cost 102.000 euro without VAT (123.420 incl VAT) (command system and IL is standard) and some pricing about the options. Aero package (I really don't like the rear spoiler, but I do like the flicks on the front spoiler ..) 7800, carbon exterior 5000euro, track package 5000 euro, rear seats 2000 euro.Black wheels 850euro .. (all prices are without VAT)
Also the (I think) 6 colors where in the mail, if I remember there was red, diamond white, black, matt grey, matt black ..

So now I have to decide if it would be that perfect daily drive for me ... The CL500 would go the wife (now driving Jaguar). I also have 2 Ferrari's to enjoy, a old 348TS and a recent F430, but both cars won't do it for "daily drive". I wonder how the BS would do it against the F430 performance wise ...

Now, I have alot to think about ..... ....

If the car is limited to only 4 cars in Belgium, and 600 worldwide, he is not talking crap and I have to order a.s.a.p! if on the other hand, there is a unlimited production, ... at this point he has a problem with me ! So I want to find out !!!
Don't get me wrong here, but buying a "limited production" car, can't be compared with buying a "normal" production car ! ... I have some experience with that. (Ferrari)

 

=) Of course I understand you. But mercedes (as much as I love it) will never build cars that are as exclusive as ferraris ( at least in terms of how many they make) and I honestly think this is a marketing move. They will make as many as they can sell. So if they predict that a lot of people will buy them I think they ll just keep producing them. Its just what I think though. I might be completely wrong. I am going to wait and then if I will be able, I will order one next year, or just buy used one once it comes out.

But hehe I bet you would be pissed to find out once you ve already placed the order that there is going to be unlimited production. Like harrower said, place the deposit and then if you dont like something about it you can always hand the deal to someone else.

The option you mentioned, bying a used car, is something I would NEVER do ! A BS used, is like a ticket of the lottery in my vieuw, if you don't know exactly where and from whom the car comes from !

 

Any word on official U.S. pricing yet? Any other updates?

I find the wing is too much for this car, looks like it was taken from the same parts pin the kid down the street bought his wing from for his 99 Honda Prelude, I just prefer the lip in carbon fiber.

I could not agree more, it looks to cheesey aftermarket and not OEM. Completely ruins the car i have decided.

 

the spoiler should be hidden, like on the SLS ! this rear spoiler is really for "the fast and furious" ..
