Then again, I'm not an hormone fueled, adrenaline crazed retard that needs to drive at full throttle everywhere.
After a 14 hour day at my office, I like to come home to a quiet, comfortable, and smooth ride.
As to "driving in anger", that is a colloquialism for driving in a sporting manner. It has nothing to do with being angry.
btw, sports cars have manual transmissions (leg or hydraulicly actuated clutch), not automatics...guess you and your grandma have something in common.

I've owned several cars, mostly japanese (and one Kia) and I wanted something german and special in my life. Since my last car was a 2004 Subaru STi, I wanted performance too, and also the practicality of a sedan with a full trunk as a daily driver. Sure, my C55 is no C63, but when new it was $55-60k back in 2006. I purchased it last year, used, with only 29k miles on the odometer, by almost $25k less than when it was new. Do I regret it? Absolutely no! Every time I'm behind that steering wheel I feel in an environment that none of my other cars were capable of providing. Its the combination of performance, practicality, luxury and exclusivity that these cars have that makes them so special, and worthy. Yes, I'm a big fan of the GTR and other true sport cars (911 GT3 and the CLK63 BS are another picks for me). However, I can't afford right now having those rides for only the weekends and having another car for commuting. Believe me, I've been putting a lot of thoughts buying this one (1.5 years), and the conclusion was always the same.

Mercedes C63 amg, Bmw X5,
I dont understand why you guys always compare S5 to C63. I think C63 is out if its league and here in EU it also costs quite a little bit more then the S5. RS5 is in the same price range.

No no flame intended! I have much respect for the car as well as the M3. But I got to thinking... I was out driving Jag XF and E Class looking for a daily driver.
Since the wife would drive the daily car as well and she likes smaller cars I ended up looking at C as well. That's when it hit me. A C class is around $35-$40k. Although I'm a gearhead enthusiast I began to wonder... Does a C63 REALLY have nearly $40k more content? I bet the difference between the motors cost Mercedes under $10k. Then there's suspension, brakes, seats steering wheel. Again for Mercedes all these likely cost under $5k. Seems like the the C63 should be priced around $55k - NOT $70k...
The same goes for the M3. Is it just me or does it seem that these compact high performance cars have forgotten objective. They are pocket rockets at the bottom of their respective brands and should be priced accordingly no? Seems like a contradiction for a C or an M3 to be priced upwards of $70k with Big body flagships like Jag XJ, 550, 6 Series.
I've considered one and I keep coming back to them. Might get a used one for $45k. Two questions:
1) Have any of you been able to logically quantify the price difference?
2) Those of you that bought a new one, have you regreted spending $70k on a car that to everyone else is looks like $30k car?
P.S. the toys I'm considering to complement the daily driver is a Viper SRT Coupe, Aston Vantage, Nissan GTR, C63. All are about $60k, C63 around $45k.
Thoughts?

As for quantifying the price difference to...lets say a C350;
The C63 has the following special items unique to it:
1) AMG 6.3 litre engine with extra cooling systems
2) AMG special exhaust system. Mind-blowing!!!
3) AMG large braking system including discs and calipers
4) AMG modified 7G tronic plus gearbox
5) AMG unique front axle
6) unique front AMG bumper and fenders
7) AMG unique rear bumper to house the quad pipes
8) AMG front and rear suspension, mist of the parts are unique to this model only
9) AMG alloys
10) AMG front bucket seats. These are amazing!
11) AMG sports steering wheel, AMG speedo
12) AMG high pressure fuel pumps
Plus other things that I'm sure I missed.
I'm sure if they only were only building a limited number the car would have cost more due to smaller scales of economy on all the specialized parts.
If I were you, I would seriously go and test drive the different models you are looking at to find out what really meets expectations.

Amaizing how people still wants to talk about GTRs and C63. The last time that i checked my C63 cost me OTD $53k and change brand new and that is with about $5000 in options included.
Ironically a GTR with some minor options OTD will cost you $100000. Back in 08 I had the money to buy a GTR but they were asking $25000 mark up.
In my opinion the C63 can be had for a reasonable price considering that Dodge Chargers SRT-8 are mid to high 40s and they are not as nice as the C63 wivh has better seats and is a better brand.
I am happy with owing a C63 new (back in 09) well equiped for just over $53 k OTD(military registration break +7500 disccount from MB+5500 disccount from the local dealer).

$53k however is quite a good deal for a new C63 with $5k in options. Are people really still getting deals that good nowadays? I would assume this may again become the case for left over 2011's as the 2012's start to fill dealer lots with their facelift and numerous upgrades.

I see it this way, a 2011 C350 sport at military sales in Germany starts at $35,980. and a base priced 2011 C63 is 52,380. Thats just over 14k between the two, open the hood on a C63 and I think the AMG is a better buy than the C350. In my opinion the 6.2 power plant is one of the best built V8s this planet has ever seen and is more than worth the 52k.

I've driven an Ferrari F430 and Lamborghini Murcielago that were automatics... maybe you don't consider them true autos (although I do) but you can't deny they are true sports cars!

My point, respectfully, is that someone who likes a sedan to be luxurious probably wouldn't care for a sedan that aims to be sporty (which largely comes at the expense of luxury). Nothing wrong with your preference, it's just not what the C63 is about. Ideally, one could have multiple cars for different purposes and not to have compromise with any of them, but that's not an option for a lot of people.

Which is why I say again...the whole point is that it comes back to perception and preference. //End Thread.

I fear that we're going in circles. It's obviously not going to be worth the money for you if you want luxury, but the OP made it pretty clear that he's interested in performance when he asked for opinions. It would be like someone asking for opinions on luxury sedans and my saying that the S500 sucks because it's too heavy to be nimble. Opinions are only useful if they address the priorities of those asking for them.

The c63 is worth a lot more than a 10K difference.
Remember, the c63 motor is hand made by one man. It is basically the same motor as in the E63, the CLK BS, the S63 etc. These cars all MSRP at over $100.
In that sense, the C63 is a bargain. Having said that, I would not have purchased the C63 had it not been for 11K in trunk money. I needed that to protect myself from the huge hit these cars take in the first year.

I like performance too, but not performance wrapped in a 4 door wrapper with an automatic transmission.
I will admit that the C63 is quick in a straightline. Thats where my enjoyment of the car ends.
