Hmm, so I'm also strongly considering having a dash cam hardwired by Premier when they wrap+tint+hardwireV1. Any thoughts on this?

My choices seem to be really crappy (and cheap) options on eBay / Amazon, a GoPro 2 (or the new hotness, the GoPro 3), or a Contour +2 (the GoPro's closest competitor).

My primary goal is protection and proof, as opposed to video for track days (multiple non-hardwired GoPro's will be used for that).

Oooh, nice. Looks like your MBWorld search fu is greater than mine.

Here's the important quote I gathered from that thread:

Quote: The thing about the GoPro and Contour Roam is that they lack features you want in a dash cam. They are great cameras, don't get me wrong, but are made for a different type of recording. If they had loop recording, and a parking mode, they would be great!
I guess I'll be ordering one of these.

Thanks!

I actually am familiar with that thread since I had to search it for the forum member who just got scammed on his way to the Toronto meet.

I have a Contour and it's great for recording rides. I think the BlackVue dash cams are purpose built, not just for recording. I'm still undecided if I want to install one or not.

Btw, any update on your car's status?

If you are still debating V1 vs escort, I had a V1 sold it since my city decided to put a bunch of speed cameras so I bought the escort 9500ix.

I feel like the V1 had great range and is perfect for the freeway, but too chatty around town, the 9500ix locks out false alerts, but on the freeway lacks range and at times has been very slow to alert to KA band which has no false alerts.

Now that my city took down the cameras I am thinking of going back to the V1 and just doing the auto mute for K band which you can program not to alert until half strength for city mode.

The thing I miss the most about the V1 is the arrows. I cant tell crap when my 9500ix goes off at night. Having the V1 tell you behind or in front is a big advantage, lets you know when you passed the threat or if the treat was behind you, this is especially helpful at night when sometimes you cant even see the cop.

One last thing about the 9500ix at random times it will decide to put in a speed camera or speed trap ect, and you cant that I have figured out go in and edit and remove falsely tagged zoned. For instance a spot on the freeway that alerts to a red light camera and the arrow points perpendicular to the freeway and states 2000 feet away, the thing should know better since its in auto mode and knows I am going 75mph on a freeway not a surface street.

I have a 9500ix and the sound it makes is different when I'm coming up to a cop vs right after I pass them. So basically we can tell whether it's coming from in front or behind, just doesn't tell us which side.

Can any other 9500ix owners verify? Or have I just been using it wrong the whole time? lol

Quote: I ended up going with the Savvy from V1. It plugs right into my port in the footwell and works perfectly.

Glad to hear that. Based on another recommendation, I ordered one today.
Thanks.

I ended u just mounting mine above the rearview mirror (so it's tucked between the mirror and roof liner), ran the wire across the liner, tucked it behind the A-pillar, and into the glove compartment using the cigarette lighter adapter.

I ran mine to the glove compartment cig lighter too and ran the wires up the A pillar. Simple is better. Can't tell it's not hardwared.

If you're in Cali with a V1 program it to turn off the X and K band since noboby uses it. I got blasted by a cop with Lidar, the V-1 went nuts, lucky I was under the limit anyway. Time for a laser jammer.

I'll take pics when I get home. I'm away this week.

When I got nailed the day I bought my car, I had my buddy's V1 and got hit by LIDAR. The V1 went nuts but it was too late. I like the idea of hammers and some folks have sweet setups, but they still protrude from the grille too much.

California is one of the states where hammers are not legal. Has anyone dealt with this issue?

Here is my setup. I have mine just over the left end of my rearview mirror. There's a black plastic cover where the mirror mounts to the windshield that is easily removable. I tucked the wire back there and ran it cross the roof liner.

When you get to the A-pillar, you just need to pull it back with something to tuck the wire. I used a screw driver to push the wire in.

There's a black strip that goes down the whole pillar that you can use to shield the wire, the you can eventually tuck it into the glove box like I did below.

That's awesome, nice, easy and clean. What wire did you use with the detector or what do I need to replicate this?

I got the whole thing from eBay...detector and kit. I think from the Valentine website you can buy either a straight wire cigarette lighter adapter or a coiled. This one just happen to come with a straight wire so I just ran that cross the roof liner and down the A-pillar. I twisty-tied the extra in the glove compartment near the cigarette lighter adapter.

I just hardwired my V1 through the reading light per the instructions above. It took me 10 minutes to do everything. I noticed that the ground was tighter when lodged to the side of the bracket instead of dead center.

For those of you that tucked the cable behind the A pillar, did you use standard phone cable or the extra thin phone cable?

There's still plenty of Ka band use in today's traffic police. Especially highway/interstate patrol.

yeah, most departments in my area are KA and some still K. The officers on bikes use laser though....and all these newer model cars with adaptive cruise control and lane monitors setoff my laser.
