Cat delete vs Resonator delete

Hey guys! I've been wanting to modify my exhaust for a while now and I think I'm gonna do it real soon but i don't know what to do. I know that resonator delete makes your car louder but no gains. At the moment i don't care about any gains. I haven't done much research about primary cat delete so can you guys help me out with it?
-Would you notice a change in tone and volume?
-How much gain?
-Which would be better? (primary cat delete vs. resonator delete[straightpipe vs xpipe])

If you don't care about gains then go with a resonator delete.

Why would you only delete the primaries?
If your doing that might as well delete both primaries and 2ndaries.

Go with 2ndary cat delete (X pipe) and resonator delete (straight pipe).

How does removing the secondary cat affect emissions?

it doesn't they are not monitored.

I've done this in my car as well. Kind of raspy, really really loud when you stand on it. but quiet for normal driving. If akrapovik wasn't 3300 for just mufflers I'd love to go that route as I think that would take the rasp out.

By not monitored, I am guessing you mean via the cars internal sensors. What I was talking about was more along the lines of the emissions test that some of us have to take every 2 years (at least in MD, I think VA is every year). Will removal of the cat cause that test to fail... Last time I took the test (about 5 months ago), not only did they connect to the obdII port, but they also shoved a sensor up my exhaust pipe.... that would be my primary worry.

Also, how will it affect the primary cat. They are designed to clean and remove certain particles fromt eh exhaust, there is obviously a reason for the secondary, what that is I do not know, a guess would be so that it gets the last bit of crappy emissions out of the exhaust to pass emissions tests.

I can't say for sure on the sniffer test. For some strange reason Mass doesn't have one. I'd be willing to bet it would have no problem passing the sniffer with just the primaries in place. Car would probably pass with long tubes and no cats. This is a clean running new engine not an old big block from the 60's.

I did both after listening to sound clips of one or the other and the sound wasn't much different than stock. I only wanted to do this once so just went all or nothing with it.

I may consider this.. should be a cheap mod to get some serious grunt sound.. And will find out when I go get my emissions test.. I guess I will keep the cats around to be on the safe side to be able to put them back in if I need to. It was weird they did the sniffer test on me this time, because they never did that on my camry (hybrid model) or my wifes FX35 that I took in a while back... I wonder if they do it randomly.. or pick vehicles that would be subject to the gas guzzler tax (I pulled that theory out of my rear.. it is just a guess)

I paid an exhaust shop $200 to remove the secondary cats and resonators, add an x-pipe and straight pipes.

I couldn't see the point in the $600 or $800 they charge for the "special" C63 x-pipe.

The $600 X pipes are TIG welded as opposed to MIG. TIG welding process is alot more cleaner and labor intensive then MIG but strength wise I suppose they are about the same unless if the TIG is purge welded.

I agree I'm very happy with the way it sounds. Very angry at full boil. Just think the akro mufflers would be evil. but not for 3300.

Jeff Is there any droning after resonator delete? I've never really liked the farty sound of the factory exhaust, listening to stangxs video the sound sounds a lot more aggressive than standard. Might be a silly question but where is the resonator located?

with 7 gears there really is no droning if you want to drive quiet it's very easy to do so. The resonator is after the secondary cats before the mufflers it's the larger of the 2 I believe.

Guys, by removing any of these (resonators or cats), will it affect my car's tuning? The tuner guy said not to remove the cats because I will get a cel error. True?

you will not get a cel from removing the secondary cats they are not monitored.

I have no idea about a retune can't really see why you're just allowing the air to pass through the exhaust with less restrictions. you're not adding any air in so not sure why a retune would be required.
