I have the new media command system fitted to my C63, but cant get the i-phone 3G to sync for the online application every thing else is okay? Keep getting Data not available and phone not supported.

Is there a fix for this apart from upgrading to other style of phone?

No. Comand uses DUN and that isn't supported on most iphones

Actually, it is not so much dialup networking (DUN) as it is tethering.

All of the phones these days support it, however, the carriers disable it it to fleece more money out of you.

If you want to pay the extra, get tethering, if not.. there are other options, but they are not without risk. PDAnet is a application you can run on jailbroken devices, but it leaves a telltale signature in the network traffic, and ATT has been shutting those users down, or automatically adding a tethering charge ($25 monthly fee on top of normal data).

If you switch to an android, you can root it, and enable the built in tethering. Much harder to detect.

Yah we keep getting screwed MBZUSA says it's not a software upgrade but a whole new system. I'm trying to figure out what good the hard drive in my multi media is good for. (Oh I forgot you take 5 years of your life and load up all you old CD's.) You can't download from your Ipod and pre 2010 you can't even get your IPOD to display on the nav screen. I can't even find someone who has figured out how to bypass the DVD interlock so it will work while your moving (wifey likes to watch movies on long road trips..helps her ignore my driving).

I was told by my friend at Mercedes, when i picked up my E63 that the new ML have a internet hotspot built into them, so one could assume that the S, CL, CLS, SL, E will follow suit.

 

There are systems that will get iPod on most of the Mercedes COMAND screens as well as unlocking all the locked functions (such as DVD) while driving. If you are interested, you can check our site at cartronics.com

I always wanted to install an airport express in my C and use its airtune feature, but I ended up with the MIP instead.

I think it would be so much better if car companies would delete the comand type systems and instead allow for preamp and video signal inputs compatible with iPhone or other smartphones. Once you are plugged in, you have the control of your phone and its IO through your car; apps, gps and all.

 

Seems like the new command does not support android phones....

 

That would love if the capability was there, as MB is behind the eight ball on their electronics as compared to pother car manufacturers. Mercedes builds the best engineered cars in the world, but sometimes I think that their entertainment system were and after thought.

 

Cartronics Skunkworks here - we are working on a solution to that very problem right now. It is too early to give any details, but by CES we hope to have an iPhone based system that will drop into a most of the Mercedes Classes and give you full functionality over the COMAND.

 

Nope still nothing! just tried another phone that I have registred in the UAE and it has tethering option slider bar but still no go

Have got I-tunes running at the latest spec/edition and still nothing. will work on some other options and get back to you all.
