2012 C63 vs E63 vs CLS63
I actually drove the CLS63 first and i thought, during my first couple passes that the car was incredible (especially coming from a C63) But i hoped into the E63 right after and there was a noticable improvement across the board in terms of driving dynamics/power/handling and overall fun factor.
It was really hard to put your finger on it, but after we did a full round in all the cars we all came up with the same opinion. The E63 (especially the wagon for day to day usability) was the one to have out of all the cars

1. The new 5.5 TT is absolutely sensational. Revving it initially left me a bit disappointed by the sound but I'm coming from a C63 LTH and deleted cats so even my 599 GTB F1 sounds tame in comparison. Also had to get used to how the engine drops the RPMs when you get off the gas. The old 6.2 left off immediately whereas the TT takes a bit longer due to the turbo spooling down (I assume - not an expert).
2. Torque and more torque. Off the line both the CLS and E felt almost identical to my tuned C63 (butt dyno) but it was in the mid acceleration I was blown out of the chair and equally it also felt like there was no limit to the top end (never went past 130 MPH).
3. Inside the car you feel lower to the ground in the CLS. Also the cabin is noticeably smaller / more crammed due to the sloping roof line. The E class is extremely classy inside and has tons of air around the passengers in both the front and rear seats.
4. Performance wise I didn't feel a huge difference between the E and CLS but the E was slightly ahead both off the line and in mid acceleration. I think this comes down to a lower curb weight (un confirmed but most magazines has the E listed as 4048 lbs and the CLS as 4275 lbs depending on publication).
5. In the end my choice fell on the E63 PP. The car looks fantastic with the new PP elements and has a real menacing presence. The CLS on the other hand is perhaps a better looking car from a design point of view but to me the E simply had more presence and stood out a bit more masculine.

The wagon did feel more stable overall. All the car's braking was REALLY impressive.
I agree in regard to the E and the CLS. I really felt the size of the CLS while the E felt surprisingly nimble.
Did the dynamics of the wagon feel better than the sedan to you. i know all of us agreed that the wagon had just that little more stability at the limit that made it way more confidence inspring. Which is weird because you would think that extra weight over the a$$ would throw the balance off, but it was the exact opposite....
But now when i think about it, that extra weight probably gives the rear that much more grip
As the instructor mentioned, each model (ie C/E/CLS) is tuned slightly differently to appeal to a different customer group for each. When you drive the CLS63 and E63 back to back, you really feel that the E63 is tuned to be the all out performance sedan, while the CLS63 just feels just a tad bit softer and not as sharp. The CLS63 is a gorgeous car though, but my money is now on the E63....hands down

Would the 599 still destroy the AMG E or is it not as far as distance would go in a race? If the CLS63 PP is already superfast with the AMG E being a bit faster/ahead... I'd like to know how the E63 AMG PP and F10 M5 will compare to the Lambo Gallardo LP560 and Ferrari 599 in a straightline race.
How did it compare to the SLS AMG?

the new E63 and CLS63 are in the very low 12's
It will be close against the f10 M5 but no one has posted any numbers on it yet. I would give it to the E63 though....
The SLS is in a different league than the E/CLS....there is no comparison

I'd give my money to the F10 M5.
We'll see where it goes. BMW started this supersedan thing and they are usually the "best".
Hopefully i'll get a chance to take the SLS for a spin too...
The acceleration is mind blowing and the shifts are way stronger.....plus the car feels way lighter than it looks. i drove the SLS last year at Mont Tremblant and it was absolutely a life changing experience
You can push the SLS way past your talent limits and it will laugh at you
