2012 C63 vs E63 vs CLS63 (With PICS)
Just got back from the AMG Performance Academy in Toronto yesterday and got to drive the entire new fleet including the 2012 C63
The most impressive car by far was the 2012 E63! The new 5.5TT is a monster and walks on the C63 all day long.
The multiple suspension settings are awesome and let you dial in the car depending on road conditions. And the ACTIVE Front seats are a must.
The biggest surprise of all was the 2012 E63 Wagon. It felt incredible and actually felt more sharp at the limits compared to the sedan (for some strange reason / maybe the extra weight at the rear)
They let us do side by side drag races and the E63 pulled on the CLS63 by about a car every time (we only took it to 3rd gear)
I went in there thinking the CLS63 was going to be my next car, but i was way more impressed with the E63. The CLS just felt a little cushier and felt alot bigger than the E63 through the slaloms
I'll upload the pics shortly

They had the 2012 C63 Coupe there but it wasn't broken in yet so we couldnt beat on it.
The one thing that surprised me was how much better the interior looks in the the 2012 C63 compared to the pre-facelift cars. I didnt think i would like the integrated screen but it looks way more upscale then the pop-up unit on my car.
I drove the 2011 E63 around Mont Tremblant last year and it was definitely my favourite but the 2012 just feels so much stronger and stable.....and absolutely no turbo lag at all

If yes to both, the E63 wagon may be close to the ultimate balance between performance vs practicality and stealth.

The shifts are alot snappier with the MCT but you will really only notice under wide open throttle....as well the downshifts are more crisp too
The biggest improvement is the race start. Being able to launch each one of those cars at 4000 RPM is EPIC (especially the 5.5 TT cars)

Personally the E63 was way more fun than the C63 because, for us, it was a bigger car but felt just as sharper and alot faster.
The wagon, for some reason felt alot better than the sedan. I went with 3 of my friends who are all car nuts as well, as we all walked away saying that the car we wanted the most was the E63 Wagon.
When you're driving it, you don't even notice that its a wagon at all. Plus the cabin feels alot roomier without the back glass right behind you. But everyone got out of the wagon and couldn't believe how impressive it was. Going from the wagon to the sedan, you could not tell the weight difference at all, but you could tell that the wagon just gave you that incremental feel of confidence at the limit more than the sedan.
Maybe more guys who go through the event can give their feedback too but it was verified by the 4 of us and we all pushed those cars to the limits
I can just imagine a performance pack wagon with 20" super concave ADV wheels and a tune. Ultimate sleeper

i was there at the satuarday morning session! The E63 wagon was very impressive! I'm pretty sure the instructor said that the wagon has the performance pack while the sedan did not. Loved the faint sound of the turbos spooling.
They didn't let us test drive the new 2012 C63 (sedan or coupe), would've been nice to compare it with mine.
The C63 Coupe interior was very impressive, the rear bucket seats looked as comfortable as the C63 sedan front seats!

Awesome event--great info and pics.
I was really leaning toward the CLS to replace my C, but if the E is that strong, maybe the E is the car to get.
I love the P30/31 cars, they look awesome!

Actually, as you can see in the pic the sdedan was a performance pack car (red calipers).
Did the dynamics of the wagon feel better than the sedan to you. i know all of us agreed that the wagon had just that little more stability at the limit that made it way more confidence inspring. Which is weird because you would think that extra weight over the a$$ would throw the balance off, but it was the exact opposite....
But now when i think about it, that extra weight probably gives the rear that much more grip
As the instructor mentioned, each model (ie C/E/CLS) is tuned slightly differently to appeal to a different customer group for each. When you drive the CLS63 and E63 back to back, you really feel that the E63 is tuned to be the all out performance sedan, while the CLS63 just feels just a tad bit softer and not as sharp. The CLS63 is a gorgeous car though, but my money is now on the E63....hands down

I'm gonna be that guy and ask pretty much the same question again - are you sure the CLS was a PP car (and did you happen to see if the tires were the same - there are different ones available from the factory)? Driving mine, I just can't believe that anything could pull that much on it - the CLS PP IS SO FAST.
