C63
It's pretty much the same car - and the interior is only slightly nicer. I like the 2011 better over-all, still - and that was a surprise.

The 599 is obviously the faster car as is the SLS but it's not Golf GTI vs. C63 faster.
Off the line the SLS would always pull ahead steadily but at highway speeds and mid range acceleration the difference was not all that huge. I would imagine that when you get a tune, exhaust and headers on the CLS/E the difference is going to shrink significantly.
Dbason55 has a Brabus tuned CLS putting down 580 WHP and this is only with a tune and exhaust (no headers).
I'm placing my deposit on the E today with expected delivery 2nd week of December.

It's kind of interesting, actually, because I think it's natural to perceive the newer models of cars to be better looking because they are supposed to represent improvements, but sometimes that isn't the case for everyone. It's all subjective anyway.
All the cars discussed in this thread look absolutely awesome and I'm sure they are so much fun to drive hard.

if the pics that themailman34 was at the same venue its clear that the CLS63 car number 11 has no PP the calipers are not red guys you probably were too excited to ask about the options thats why the E was quicker than the CLS, the E you guys post has red calipers.

The black E class in themailman34 is also not a PP.
The OP and myself posted a comparison between the CLS and E PP. Mailman just chipped in.

All is good I personally didn't feel there were a big difference between the CLS and E PP. Perhaps a slight edge but the butt dyno is not really accurate.
With a tune, exhaust and headers (when made available) the cars will be very close if not identical in performance.

oh well i know it states that the E63 is 0.1 second quicker than the CLS63 0-100 km at AMG official website the E is a monster you can never beat that fact but i really just wanted to point out that its not a PP maybe number 12 is a PP

Its not just the flat acceleration that was better, the whole car handled better and felt sharper than the CLS63. When i mentioned that the CLS63 and E63 were tuned differently, i wasn't referring to different ECU tunes, i was referring to the overall dynamics and driveability which made the E63 feel like it was tuned sharper than the CLS63.
When it comes to comparisons though, as soon as that new M5 comes out, i think they will compare it against the E63 and not the CLS63
Just sayin.....

What you dont see, as well, was a Silver CLS63 that was PP too (you can see in the background that there is a car carrier there the second day, because they were switching out alot of the fleet as people were actually buying the cars there - ie E63 Wagon was sold).

video of the mini drag event we had.

For our session the E63 wagon was the one with the performance pack while the sedan wasn't. We both got abit heavy footed in the CLS and both overshot the stop lol.
callmiro, did you set your suspension mode to sport (or was it sport+) in both E's you drove?

So the CLS/E aren't far behind the SLS? I'm wondering about a highway rolling race
Unfortunately, from what I've seen in GTBoard airfield runs, the SLS AMG isn't all that superfast. Granted, it's cheaper than a Ferrari 458 Italia/599 GTB and Lambo Gallardo LP etc. however it's quite slower than them in races.
Guess you can't really compete with true exotics unless you are tuned which should be easy anyway with the turbos.

Great thread, photos, and feedback... I love the new 5.5TT--- time to get rid of the 2010 W212
Yes I would hope so but the DCT in the F10 M5 will help over the MCT.

Seems like BMW has MB's number in the transmission department. And it doesn't make sense to me why MB lets that happen.
For instance, I'm sure the SMG gearbox is better for performance than the 722.9. And in the both a DCT and a Manual gearbox is offered compared to the automatic in the C63.
Now, the new M5 will have a DCT but the E63 has the MCT.
Why do you think MB chooses to only use a DCT in the SLS. It can't be that expensive considering BMW can install them in the M3 which is in the same price class as the C63.

Good point about the GT-R. I test drove it and besides the kind-of clunkiness at slow speeds (I don't blame it, btw... If I was a GT-R I would want to go fast all the time too ) the shifts were lightening fast and the car just accelerates so fast with the help of that amazing transmission.

Were you guys racing in a parking lot? Did you actually get up to speeds that would test the limits of these cars? Just from the quick video Noodleman posted sounds like a two/three gear acceleration test, which I guess could mimick street light to street light racing.

2013 ML63 AMG PP
Thanks for the write ups and pictures, looks like it was a ton of fun. I drove an SLS at a test track in Germany earlier this month and I must say, for anyone looking for as big a grin as the first time you got into and drove the C63, the SLS is it!!! It's the next big thing! For a smaller step up then you get a new E or CLS with the 5.5 twin turbo motor. If you have a tuned C63 then you will need at minimum a PP 5.5TT. The CLS63 I also test drove, was with the standard power output but I felt my tuned C63 would have been a bit faster based on the ever reliable? butt-dyno. The C63 is still louder sounding than the CLS but the SLS takes it up another level! It amazingly does sound even better and more raw than the STD C63 exhaust, which is an amazing feat! In short the SLS is a C63 ith everything turned waaay up. Amazing!

I just returned from the Basic ADA at Laguna Seca. I will agree that the E63 felt tighter and faster around the track. I drove both cars along with the SLS for multiple laps and the E felt all around better that the CLS. I like the looks of the CLS better but for the track the E wins. Others there had the same opinion. The SLS was AMAZING! We only drove the C63 for the autocross and emergency braking segments --- I was disappointed that I couldn't see what my car would do on the track!!
If anyone is on the fence about taking this course you should do it! It is very well organized and you spend most of the day in the cars, not in the classroom.
