Why not a P-Car for that price? Im sure you could get a used GT2/3-RS for close to it

Your comment on the GTR quality means you have not sat or spent anytime in the car.
The new GTR has nothing to be ashamed of versus the BS when it comes to interior finish.
It may not feel as fun driving it but believe me, hitting 0-60 under 3 seconds is a pretty cool thing few other stock cars can give you.
It is about as exclusive on the streets and I think you will get the same attention as the BS.
I agree that I would rather buy a regular C63 coupe and make my own customization and still have 25K left for any warranty issues.

It's an AMG and will plummet in value as they all do. I have learned this lesson the hard way 3X with AMG's. If you can stand to wait or buy second hand that is always the best route with an AMG. If you gotta be the first you will pay a premium and take the hardest hit. It is inevitable.

Completely true statement. I've driven several R35 GT-R's, and it'll destroy the Black Series (let's say CLK BS since the C63 BS isn't out yet, and the 2 cars are very similar) in a straight line and in the corners. Funny thing though, I got bored of the GT-R after an hour, where as I want to get back in the BS every time I get out of it. The CLK BS wasn't about being the fastest car on the track, it was about a perfect balance of go, stop, and cornering. You want to fall asleep driving the GT-R at the limit around a bend. The BS demands full attention with steering and throttle, and leaves a grin on your face out of every corner.

I wouldn't think twice about spending much more money than a GT-R for a BS. The closest car I've driven that gives me as much fun as the CLK BS is the SLS AMG, at nearly twice the price. If you're looking for 'ring laptime bragging rights, the GT-R is the car to get. If you're looking at giggling like a kid everytime you go for a rip, get the C63 BS.

I sold my CLK BS 2 months ago in anticipation for the C63 BS, and I haven't stopped whining about how much I miss that car.

One final though, if you're worried about price and depreciation, don't buy it new, and hope one of the 31 owners in Canada will sell the car down the road.

I'm buying. Appreciate the thoughts on this. I too have driven the GT-R and did get bored.

One more question. I got the spec sheet and I cannot figure out what is included in the supposed base price of $110,000 to $115,000. Does that include everything under the "BS Package"?

If I was in the market for a sports car and I had $125k I would get a barely used 997.2 TT and run away!

You guys in Calgary are getting great deals. The Alberta sales tax is so much cheaper than here in Ontario, my dealer gave me an invoice of 137K on the road(tax included). BTW, to all the Nissan GT-R lovers out there, yes the car may be faster, but it is UGLY, and you can get the best exhaust system installed made in 24k gold and the car still sounds like S!*T...the giggle factor in all the 6.2L AMG cars is priceless....when I see a GT-R it reminds me of the kid who was bullied all his life and went to the most prestigious martial arts school, taught my the grandmaster, but is still an ugly loser.

And now you can get that CLK63BS use for almost half that price in excellent condition and it's just as rare. So pass on the C63BS and get the CLK63BS. Never buy new unless money is no object or the car is so rare you know the price will not crater the first year you own it. (i.e. Porsche Carrera GT, Ford GT, etc).

Supply and Demand. MB markets the Black Series line as very limited supply and has never had an issue selling them all to eager buyers. Does this make fiscal sense? Not if you look at the Black Series as an independent offering, but in reality they exist to enhance the AMG brand image with the true intention of keeping the other product lines relevant in the eyes of consumers.

If you don't believe me go back and read how many have posted that a standard C63 is now a "bargain" in comparison to the Black Series. A month ago a thread literally raged regarding whether or not a C63 was worth the $70,000 MSRP.

This is what I am counting on. I gave up my spot. We are building a house in Aspen and went nuts on upgrades. Way over budget... haha. I hate owing the bank money, so the BS has to wait.

I figure there will be some C63 BS come next fall that aren't even broken in for about $90K-$100K.

Never buy new? All cars depreciate, it depends if you like that new car smell or not and if you don't mind watching your dream car drive by for a year or so while you watch from the sidelines.

It's not that money is no object, in fact it is the oposite, we all have choices.

C63 AMG Coupe P31
im so glad i read this post. 125k omg. i was worried about not having the best c series when i bought my coupe p31 (it just bothers me lol) but after seeing the price, i would never pay 50k more for that. its cool for sure but i thought they would be more like 90k.

in light of that....im very happy with my purchase.

i could turn my c63 coupe into a black series for less than half that. or you can just wait tell its resale value plummets like the clk63 bs did and nab one for 80k.

Most of the GT-R issues you're ranting about have been addressed by now. Most of the transmission stuff was grossly overblown (but lives on in internet infamy anyway), regardless the transmissions are fine unless you go with a monster-upgrade kit, at which point they have built-transmissions to handle the power anyway. The interior of the 2012's is really very nice, and most seem to think they look pretty nice too.

Just FYI.

To the OP: if you're worried about value for your money, or risk of massive depreciation... you should probably look elsewhere. If you want exclusivity, handling, great sound, great torque, etc... the C63BS might be the ticket. Just depends on what you're looking for.

I'm buying the car. All new cars crater after the first year or two. I thought I was getting a great deal buying a used gt3 for $125,000. 6 months later the bid was $100,000. Same thing happened on a used m5 I bought.

The c63 bs will be awesome. That v8 is the best around. I usually keep my cars for a while so the depreciation will not bother me. Having it next spring will be wort it.

Looks awesome in the flesh, saw it at Frankfurt this year.

The white one with aero package was tearing around the Nurburgring when I was there a few weeks back as well, sounds amazing.
