OMG.. choosing brake pads drives me crazy..

I need to get new brake pads..

so Ive researched some..
n I can't really handle this..
it gets going crazy..

Endless.. I heard that this is the top of line.. but.. price is also..
Hawk.. Also good but.. also high priced..
Carbotech.. some ppl say it's also good..
etc...........

there r too many kinds of brake pads..
n I can't really decide..

and Just letting u guys know..
this is the first time im getting new brake pads on my c63..

so.. Im asking u guys to give me some recommendation or mention about pads as a favor..

my driving style?
hmm.. I dont really go to track.. cuz I don't have time for that i guess? ;(
but on the high way.. I sometimes drive like an outlaw.. lol

I prefer low noise n dust.. I know I can't catch both of them at the same time.. but.. as low as possible..

and I also would like to get some aftermarket thing instead of OEM..
cuz.. Im not sure how good the OEM pads r..

and 1 more thing..
I don't know how it happened.. but..
my front pads r still more than 50%..
but rear pads r less than 10%..

so my another question is..
should I change pads at the same time?
or just get them at the same time n change rear first, wait for front..

Would u please give me some recommendation?!

If you drive on the street (no track) get the OEMs. Change the rear, you can wait for the fronts till they are down a bit more or change them all at once, up to you.

The rears are probably being mangled by the stability control system correcting for you antics :-)

Per my mechanic the rears on these cars wear out first.

oem dust like crazy.

I'm hoping on getting a set of endless pads, but I need to do research on how they handle Canadian winters. The temp range listed doesn't go below zero....

If you want low dust you can try Porterfield. Call or email Jerry at http://www.formymercedes.com/mb.asp and he will be happy to help and give you some advice.

Jerry is a great guy. I would do it on his say so. But.......if you dont track your car you really arent going to do a whole lot better than factory. I can run a half hour track session with next to no fade and they really do last pretty well.

When you say that you are at 50 and 10 % what is spec for a new pad? How thick?

+1. The stock rotors and pads are soft and matched for use on the street. After market "track" pads are going to take longer to heat up to get grip and will also eat your OEM rotors up faster (and they have a habit of squealing too). As far as brake dust goes, you're always going to have it unless you convert to ceramic brakes.

I cannot tell you what pads to get (I have not had to change mine yet, but it is fast approaching, I am at 53k miles)

However, the reason for the major wear discrepancy between the fronts ant the rears is no unique to our cars, it is ALL cars that have disks all around.

The front pads are significantly larger the the rears (universal across all cars, 80% of your breaking power comes from the front brakes). When you are in traffic or applying light brake pressure, you get heavy wear and tear and since the pads are smaller, they will wear quicker.

I had this issue on both my old 2007 Camry, and my wifes 2005 FX35. Oddly enough, there was a recall on the Camry to adjust the pressure the master brake cylinder was applying to the brakes. Prior to the adjustment, equal pressure was applied to all 4 (the reason for the recall was that you could lock up the rears). After the adjustment, they modulate pressure to the rear.
