I got myself a truck for the winter. I save the car for when the roads are clear and the temp isn't -30. Winter here is just too hard on vehicles.
When I say driving the car year 'round, I mean when the streets have been plowed, do you still take the beast out?

No doubt that winter is hard on a car. I live on the east coast and it can get nasty here too... salt galore. However, it doesn't stop me from driving year round. If I kept cars 8+ years, then maybe I would consider not driving it in winter. However, for me, I trade cars every few years and like to enjoy them everyday that I own them. Unless you are keeping cars for a LONG time and/or are collecting them, winter harshness is no big deal. Don't forget, these cars were built and designed for German winters and can withstand a little cold, ice, snow, salt, etc without issue. I do completely understand people who use winter beaters... just for me, I like the enjoyment of the car every day unless its in the middle of a huge storm and then I would use my wife's SUV.

gthal, you got it spot on... I'm the type of person who keeps cars for more than 10 years.

I had a 1993 Stealth TT that I sold in 2009 (gotta admit I was driving the car every winter). (16 years)
I had a 2002 Lexus IS 300 that I gave to my young bro last year (the car is still running like brand new). (8 years)

edit: if my car was leased, I would definitely drive it in the winter... no point to pay monthly lease payment to let it sit in the garage... imo!
