Car and Driver: 2012 BMW M3 vs 2012 C63 AMG

Don't get me wrong... the M3 forums are MUCH worse than MBWorld in most ways but I do think the GTR gets more respect for some reason there than here. Maybe I'm wrong but that was my perspective. I do think the M3 has WAY more blind fanboys than the C63.

All I have to say is that a GTR is an okay car. It's fast, quick, and can keep up with a super car, but that's it. It's cheaply built and will fall apart after 10,000 miles. I have multiple Mercedes close to the 300,000 mile mark that run great. Yes Mercedes has recently slipped in their reliability, but they still remain the most reliable cars in the world. Once they uproot Dr. Z and put their money where it needs to be (Not Mitsubishi or Chrysler which cost them BILLIONS) they will be back to their old ways with all that gorgeous wood and interior. Come on Nissan had a warranty issue with the GTR, that car is just a mess. SMH

Don't know where you get your reliability stats but Mercedes is at or near the bottom of luxury brands for reliability. Lexus, Porsche, Infiniti, Acura are all better with BMW, Audi and Mercedes following after. I'm not saying they aren't reliable but they are not as reliable as other luxury brands.

Don't get me wrong... not suggesting that MB isn't reliable. I'm just pointing out that the brand isn't perfect and has its own share of problems... like any other brand other than the select elite few. There are lots of other articles you can find online that suggest MB reliability has declined. Again, I'm NOT saying it is bad by any stretch just trying to straighten out a few fanboys who don't see the reality that all cars... including MB... can and do have reliability issues . When someone says the MB is the "most reliable car in the world" as was quoted above, I can't let that pass witout correction.
P.S. HotIce, didn't you also question MB reliability
And for the record... I do prefer the C63 over a GTR for a variety of reasons (luxury, comfort, practicality, looks, interior design, sound, etc) but it annoys me when people can't see past a badge.

I just corrected the info that was given. The're no longer at the "bottom of the list". MB isn't great but I'd place them in the 'good' category.I can't call them 'reliable'. 'Somewhat reliable' is more like it. I know how you feel, it's annoying when people see the badge and think it's gods gift to man.

your an idiot. Nissans are just cheap and if you can't see that, then you need your eyes checked! I spend most of my time on the road not on a track (everyone on this forum spends more time on a road then track). I want my car to be a great all around car and a Nissan GTR is extremely far from that.

How did this turn into a C63 vs GT-R debate?

you're. and this isn't a c63c gtr debate someone just got butt hurt over someone saying a Nissan is still a Nissan. This is a Mercedes Benz forum anyone talking about anything other should get lost.

Let's get the facts straight:
In terms of the track and every single other performance number the GT-R kicks C63 ***.
http://www.fastestlaps.com/tracks/nordschleife.html
In terms of luxury / reliability/ seats 4 , blah, blah- its SUBJECTIVE! so spend your money where you like it. but don't call the Nissan a bad car just because u think it needs more luxury or it is just a Nissan!
Here's one more thing the Nissan beats us in- Rate of Depreciation! The car holds its value with the best of them. I've been waiting to get one, but those darn things are still at 65k-70k used!

Let the grown ups here have the discussion, son, and you can keep the trolling to other forums where your little friends hang out... you know, teenacne.com or something

I'm a lot of things and maybe an idiot is one of them but if we consider idiocy on a relative basis to those people around us, then there is really only one idiot here and it isn't me. How old are you? 16? Your Mommy and Daddy should have done a better job teaching you manners.

We respect all opinions here- we understand you dont like the GTR. I love Benzes, I love my GTR, and other cars too. When valid points are made we take them and have a good discussion about Benzes AND other cars.
But dont come here and call people idiots. Trust me, your opinion or not, I will ban you if you dissrespect other members.

I've driven multiple GTR's since they came to the states. My buddy owns one and hates it. They're cool if your a little kid. They have no class or anything. Talk to someone real about cars and they'll have a great laugh about the GTR. They are built for speed and lap times, nothing more or less. Turn the traction control off and it nullifies the warranty by uploading it in to the cars computer. The car has a remarkable price but to get the best lap times out of it when I drove it left me unhappy. It's fallen into the ugly fire and hit with sledgehammers.

Ugly is subjective... opinions vary.
If you are buying a sports car for "class" and "image" then a GTR may not be for everyone. If you are into speed, handling and track performance then the car is hard to beat anywhere near the price. As a DD there are better options (C63 IMO) but for a track or weekend only car we have a different opinion on the GTR. But... if impressing the Jones' is the most important characteristic of a car and the Jones' aren't true car enthusiasts (i.e. they are badge enthusiasts only) then maybe the GTR is a poor choice.

Couple of things... the warranty issue was for abusing launch control not for turning off traction control. No longer a concern as confirmed by Nissan so this is a non issue.

Going back to the Thread title, I have been reading CD for over 30 years and I must say that they have always had a bias for BMW. When I read MB BM comparos I take them for what it is written with bias.
I too have a bias otherwise I wouldn’t be human right? Hell this is a MB forum we all should have a bias. IMHO there is a big difference between Bias and refusing to acknowledge a competitors strengths and one’s own weakness. that’s called immaturity
