I can't read the text well but I'm guessing that price as tested had a lot to do with the ranking.

0-60 in 3.7 and the quarter in 12.1 @ 120!
Is the handling in an M3 that much better when you're 6 cars behind
" While driving the M3, we sometimes found ourselves daydreaming about the Benz’s V-8. Torque is a hell of a drug."

As someone who has had both cars. They are both fun as hell to drive. The choice of one versus the other comes down to very small issues.

Methinks somebody baked the results with the price. Last time I priced an M3 sedan, it was $70k+ without trying. The C63 loses a lot of points for price. Did they compare prices based on similar options? Base prices are the same and toss in the fact that one is new and one is getting discounts in the market, that further tilts the results

Car and Driver is such a joke. After reading this article, it further proves my theory on how C and D favors Beemers.
To me, after this article, there's zero credibility in Car and Driver...The C coupe is better in everyway. Its newer, makes more power, is more comfortable, is better looking and the interior is beautiful. It may not be quite as good on a track day, but what percentage of M3/C63 owners actually track their cars??? They should consider that when giving obscure ratings like these...

Here in Canada the M's are waaay more.
But you want prove of C&D's BMW bias? They arbitrarily took one point off the C63 cos they say it reminded them of a Honda Accord Coupe (never, ever heard that before tho) and what margin did it lose by? That one point. Pretty transparent.

I will be tracking my car! I have, historically, been a BMW and Porsche guy, and prior to the c63 had a Shelby and Boss 302 Laguna Seca, I think if the 63 were to come with some bigger rubber the track times would be a little closer or the 63 would beat it. Interior quality of the 63 is far superior than the m3, though the m3 is nice. Really, it's a matter of taste as both are great cars. For me, I wanted the torque. For an all around daily driver and a weekend track toy the 63 was my choice, another consideration (yeah, I know it's a bit infantile) was the fact that I got an edition one and not only do I not see many 63s, but I have yet to see a matte 63 aside from mine. M3s are a dime a dozen here in Dallas. Another thing as well, 1k and an ECU program and the power goes up substantially, wonder how that would affect the track times. Finally, as far as the 1 point goes for incentives...well, I got 1.9% financing for 48 months, seems good to me. BMW has .9% for 24 months (ouch, that would be a brutal payment for me 2.9k on 70k) 24-60 months is 3.9% thus total interest on a 70k loan at 3.9% is 5k, total interest on an 80k loan at 1.9% is 3k, so one saves about 2k in interest vs. BMW. Therefore I call it a tie.

On the surface, the Roundel fan boys will see it as another notch in the E9x M3's lipstick case....but I think this article further re-inforces what most here already know: the ballerina may be the better weekend mistress but the C63 is the one you ask to move in with you.

why does everyone care what a mag thinks of the car you own? so the 4 or 5 year old bmw won. we all own the amg we drive what we like.

I also just noticed that they had 5 points each for trunk space despite the C63 having a bigger trunk. And as mentioned above, the points for "price as tested" make no sense neither.
At any rate, C/D holds itself up as the ultimate car magazine. Some people expect better from them than say, an internet posting along the lines of "Torque is only for teeth picking rednecks, a true driver lives for the twisties."

Use mags for perspective and some points of reference but its all subjective and if the same BMW lover editors keep doing the reviews than the sampling is tainted/biased
Hell if I listened to the forums Id never have got a GTR because afterall "its still a Nissan"
