I would if I was in a situation with a dealer. I have one locally owned by an older man and it is a 2009 with 18k on it. The warranty will expire next year.

5k.... are you kidding me. Good god.... that is crazy for a car that MSRPs for around 60k. I under stand the bigger AMGs but that is crazy.
Plus that is a lot of BS. If you have documentation that you did the oil change they you should be alright.

I was just quoted $3500 for a 3 yr MB Factory warranty extension by the MB dealer in Naperville, IL (suburb of Chicago). You can only get this extension if the car is still under the 4 yr - 50K original warranty. The '08 AMG I am looking has an inservice date of 07/31/07, so its 4 months past. Thus I have to look at 3rd party warranty.
The MB service advisor I ahve been dealing with recommended Mercury and EasyCare 3rd party warranties. EasyCare quoted $6,500 for 3 yr coverage w $100 deductible, while Mercury (thru autoPOM.com) just quoted $4,500 for 6yrs and 100K miles. You can get the quote in 30 seconds online.
I had an EasyCare policy on my current E55, and they covered every repair except the TPMS (tire pressure monitor), total covered repairs exceeded $10K!!! So it was well worth it. I would probably extend the factory warranty. But if your local MB service advisor is happy with Mercury, you might want to think real hard about that, as its a 6yr, 100K contract, a lot of time and miles.

Good way to look at it. It really doesn't have anything to do with orig. MSRP. Just whatever the actual claims experience might be.

When I had my C55 I extended the warrenty with Mercury. They really took good car of me. I had well over 5K in dealer claims. Motor mounts hid head lamps ect. All was done at the dealer plus they gave me a rental while the repairs were done. When I sold my C55 the plan was transferred over the current owner with no problems what so ever. Good company they did right by me. If I keep the C63 past it factory warrenty I'll be sure to use Mercury again.

The list was 4950 iirc for my used 09 that i just bought. Since I was buying the car certified they took $2K off that so I actually paid $2850. They said that deal was only good if I bought the warranty with the car. If I waited and bought it when the stock warranty was up he said it would cost full retail plus a "certification" inspection that they charge ~$500 for.
When i bought my '03 C320 I waited to get the ext warranty and they hit me with the certification charge and full whack for the warranty (it was less for a C320).
in the long run, I believe I saved money on the C320, they had to replace a couple of things under warranty that would have ended up costing more than the cost of the warranty.

I was just looking at an 09 and the dealership quoted me $2795 for 1 extra year of warranty or $4495 for 2 years.
That is just hard to swallow since the car is an 09 with 15k on it. So 2-3 years of coverage would cost me almost 5k.

I have 29,000 miles on mine right now & my warranty will be up in April, 2012. I have to purchase it before then. My dealer quoted me $2900 for 3 more years/75,000 miles. I guess that's a decent deal.

Do you use this company? What about a modded car?

People often say "tell them to throw it in at the end" however this never seems to work....ever. They look at you like you're crazy, you may as well just ask for half price on the car. Point being, in every negotiation there are areas they can absorb and cut and areas they can't, this seems to be an area where the cost cannot be absorbed, unless you have already done such a poor job of negotiation that there is enough room to cut into profits on the vehicle side (like not taking advantage of available trunk money).
Having said that it does seem to swing pretty violently between some dealers who stick to the 3k for one year 5k for two...and others who get these crazy 4 year extensions for 3k.

That was the same deal I just worked out. The car we are looking at expired Feb2013 and the seller threw in that same warranty so this car would be good until Feb2016 / 75k. If you don't put alot of miles on the car then you should be good.

Yeah that is the same numbers I was getting. Ask them if they car work you up on a extra 3year / 75k miles since you don't put a lot of miles on your car and it seem that it would be more of a length of time more so then mileage.

My local dealer quoted me at $4450 for 6yr/100k MB extended warranty. I have an 2009 c63 with an in service date of June 09 and 46k miles now. I'm thinking about biting. I drive 350 miles/week. I plan on keeping it to 2015. Thoughts?

I made out pretty good. I picked up a 09 with 18k on it and he threw in full bumper to bumper warranty until 2016. I just had to pay the asking price which was pretty good to begin with.
