They are just tabs

Unhook both tabs on the top of each side and then start working them across the bottom

Just kinda push down on the grill and twist from side to side and they should start letting go

You can also take a flat head screw driver and slip it inbetween the tab and the grill to release it

Plastidip is a rubberish coating that has a satin black color to it. U can get it at lowes etc. Many people have applied it with great results!

Did a grille swap over the weekend on my old C350.

IIRC, the tabs from the bumper that slot into the grille are body colour since it's a part of the bumper. Those tabs need to be pushed down as the clip edge faces upwards. You'll be able to see them when you remove the plastic cover pieces and T brace.

You'll need to push those clips down and/or pull up and push towards the back on the grille to get those clips to release. I started on one side and worked my way to the other. I pulled up and pushed in on the grille and it just popped off.

I am super confused as to how to remove the grille on my 2012 C63 AMG coupe.

I'm not seeing ANY tabs that are removable/poppable. The only thing I see is these round parts that are fitting into a groove in the body paneling on either side of the top of the grille, but the grille is so tight in I can't "pop" them out of there.

Is there a HOWTO or anything on this? I don't want to break anything obviously.

Where should I start (lets start from right after opening the hood. ;-) )

Thanks!

So I got to the point where the front center two tabs are the only ones left.. but I can't get them. Is there some trick? I've got the whole grille almost out (off of the t bar, out of the cylinder grooves on either side, both sides fully popped open up to center under the emblem..

No dice.. spent an hour trying to get it and just got frustrated.

Is there some trick to this?

that was the same problem I had. Those were a *****. what I did was remove the air funnels (the black plastic things that lead to the air box) so I had enough space to put my whole arm inside and behind the grill.

Pushed down hard on the tabs with both my thumbs and used my knee to kind of knee it out. eventually it did come off hahaha.

but they do come out. the first time i attempted it, i got a friend who was also very good at working on cars to help me and we couldnt figure it out but eventually I got it

Alright, finally was able to get the grille off...

Now I'm trying to get the chrome strips on the grill off and again am running into major problems. There's like 17 tabs on it, which I've popped a majority of them off, all up until the ends of the bottom lip, but it still will not come out. It looks like its hooked in the corners or something, and I can't figure out how to get it out.

Is there some trick with this as well?

Thanks for all the help!

Ah, figured it out. There are two more clips inside the end caps on the bottom rail. Have to come in from the under side to pop them out - they are hidden pretty well.

I am about to embark on this same project very shortly. are you willing to compile your thoughts and tips about doing a removal for the top and bottom piece of the grille?

Sure.

Patience is key.

To remove the front grille from the vehicle (mine is a 2012 C63 AMG Coupe), first start off by removing the air scoop and ram air ducts from the front. This way you can get your hands in behind the grille to maneuver things around.

To do this, simple push down on the tabs of each of the ram ducts, then pull them out completely. Then, on the air scoop, there are 2 spots (one on left and one on right) that you pull up to release it (the left one has a hose resting on top of it). You'll also need to turn the knob in the center one rotation to release it from the mount.

After that's out, start on either side of the grille (such as bottom right), and gently but forcefully push the bottom right corner until it pops out. Then move over to the left and pop the next one out. Now, switch to the other side and repeat. If everything is done to this point, the only things holding the grille in are the two cylinder latches at the top of either side, and the center two tabs directly underneath the MB logo.

At this point, gently unseat the cylinder tabs so that they are free, now the only thing that is holding it in is the center of the grille. To do this, I ended up reaching behind with both hands and finding the two tabs from the inside, pushing down on them with my thumbs (hard) and then using my knee to push the grille out from the front.

It took some wiggling but eventually came out.

To remove the chrome rails from the grille was a PITA. I ended up using a couple small flathead screwdrivers and a lot of muscle and patience. I started at the center on one side, and was able to press the tabs next to eachother to start the removal process. The key is to get like 3-4 of the tabs released next to eachother and pull the chrome trim out a little bit so that it stays unhooked from the tabs. Then, go out from either side and gradually get more of them unpopped. Eventually you can get the entire lower rail separated except for the far end pieces. These are a little tricky - you need to pull the rail almost completely out to give yourself some working room, and if you do so and look from the bottom side, you can see a tab embedded in the end pieces that you need a small screwdriver to jam in there to pop it. I ended up just shoving it in there and wiggling it around and twisting it while simultaneously pulling on the chrome trim to pull it out. Both sides ended up coming out this way.

After that, the two center rails are easy - just slide them to the right and left (out from the MB logo) and they pop right out.

The MB logo itself was pretty tough, but I managed to do it by getting two small flathead screwdrivers and starting on the back side at the top of the logo, the two tabs are the easiest to get to. With both screwdrivers jammed in there I was able to pop the tabs and pull the chrome logo out from the front just enough so the tabs wouldn't reengage. I just ended up going counterclockwise around the logo popping tabs and pulling from the front and eventually the whole thing came off.

PITA, but I eventually got it! Now plastidipping it all. ;-)
