New aero parts from Tecnocraft and a Weistec tune.
Hey Kiddies,
It's a new year, and that means time for new goodies on the Dragon. As some of you know I used to work at Tecnocraft Composites and we started a C63 program while I was there using my car as a template. Well, the first parts are ready, and I'm stoked on how they came out. So far they've finished the front splitter and the rear decklid spoiler, and there's more in the pipeline. The detailing is a little different from the standard C63 fare, but I love it, and it works better than any of the aero I've had on the car. She's way more stable at speed (took her to Mexico and spent some time at speeds that could get me in a bit of trouble North of the border...).
Anyway, without further ado, here's the first shots. More to follow:
Now, regarding the tune, all I can say is wow. I've had a few different flashes on the car and I can definitely feel the Wesitec making more power across the midrange, and there's something different about the sound of the car that just pleases my ear more than the other tunes I've had. I don't have that many miles on the tune or any dyno numbers, but I'm sure they'll be great. The guys at Weistec were really cool to deal with. I took her down there for a chat with them and decided to sort out a few issues I had before she was ready for the tune (intake gaskets, head bolts, intake cam adjusters and tappets... 62,000 hard miles of my driving will put some serious wear on the best of them.), but once I got her sorted out they got the tune in and we were good to go. A top notch shop they've got there. More to come on this front as well...
Oh yeah, I had the calipers painted at evosport to match the cushions on my driver seat (a Tecnocraft T2, for those of you that forgot.). The crazy thing is that she's starting to feel... dare I say it... almost finished. Just about two or three or thirty more mods and I'm good.
Hope you're all doing well and driving fast,
Josh

The tappets were getting a little noisy (mostly at startup) after 60k miles of hard driving and I was opening up the top end anyway for the adjusters and bolts, so I figured I might as well take care of them because the noise was beginning to get annoying.
The cam adjusters also have a DTB on them for the first few model years. They were making a crunchy noise on startup. Not an issue once the motor got some oil pressure in it, but the first few rotations weren't very happy sounding. I'm not sure if it's a complete failure issue or just a noisy and annoying issue, but either way now it's a non-issue.

There was a time, back when I was a young man, that I gazed admiringly at Ferrari's and Lambo's and such. In time my tastes changed, and I moved to to vehicles that could perform and live in the real world as daily drivers. To haul a$$ and haul passengers is what I really want now. I couldn't care less what the new Ferrari is called. I guess what I'm taking the long way around the park to say is.....
gawdamm that car is perfect, and I covet it. Long live the Silver Dragon!!!

Hey Josh, good to see you back and the Dragon looks better than ever! Regarding the head bolts and cam adjusters, is this a MB warranty replacement issue or just a general bulletin.

Regarding the replacement parts, my car's out of warranty so I'm on my own either way, but AFAIK both are warranty items if you have a cool SA. The head bolts are a no questions asked item, but with the adjusters you might have to show proof that you've been consistent with your oil changes if you're beginning to have issues. Fortunately the class action suit on the M156 has made things easier for us owners.

The front lip is a little too flared out for my taste, but the overall look of the car is sweet. Quick question, what did you do to the bumper grille? Are they wrapped? Painted? They look nice.

Does the head have to be removed or the gasket to do the head bolts??
I've had my cam adjusters replaced already because they were noisy. IM gasket and bolts replaced too.
How would I go about getting the head bolts replaced? As there is no noise or anything to complain about?

You have longtubes, right? If so, that suggests Weistec has already expanded on their initial Stage 1 tune offering to accomodate Stage 2 setups. I'm very anxious to see any dyno results of this and the AFR curve. I've always considered trying out their tune on my current setup, although based on my strong results already I'm not sure how much improvement I could reasonably expect.
Great lookin' car! And I think I was pacing you on the 405 S Fwy a couple weeks ago. In fact, you might have even been on your way to Weistec at the time. I was the stock looking white C63 behind you.

C63Guy.....you seem to be REALLY getting good value out of your car.....that "Mexico" driving sounds interesting. Here in Aus, basically anything over 100kph (60mph) & you're in trouble....anything over 130kph, & they'll take ya car of ya & impound it for a month!
Cheers from Aus, Pickles.

i have heard about a lot of people doing some spirited driving in Mexico . where the hell in Mexico is everyone doing this stuff cuz i live here in El Paso , Tx and i wouldn't drive 1 inch into Juarez , Mexico from here . there were 3011 killed in 2010 and somewhere around 4000 killed in 2011 , so i think i will stick to the states for my spirited driving
