Ran into C4S

The 997.1 cars can still have IMS bearing issues. This is pretty low probability, but can be a catastrophic problem. Except for the early 2005 cars, the 997.1 requires the motor to be opened up to fit an upgraded IMS bearing, making any preemptive fix very costly. If I was shopping 997.1, I would only buy the GT3 or TT - the Mezger motor doesn't have the IMS bearing issue. 997.2 has a new motor design which does away with the IMS.

+1 True. There are issue with every car maker out there. The first C55 I bought was used with 5k miles on it. The day I took it home the engine blew. Pistons crank shaft and whatever else. They had to replace the whole engine under warranty. I think they told me the engine was about 40k to replace. Sounded a little high but thats what they told me. It's a true story. I returned the car and ordered a new one the new next day. I guess my thinking was at the time. This car was one of the low % of cars coming out of the factory that is a lemon (for whatever issue). Since I have owned two AMGs so far with very little problems. Just saying.
