Build date is Q1 2009
Car was at dealership today. They did run some more checks and found TSB from their system concerning head bolts. TSB describes also some more checks after head bolt replacement.
All the documents were prepared today and sent to the factory. Now I have just to wait answer from there. Dealership first impression was that probably I can´t get any good news from there.

This is such a joke. These problem aren't manifesting themselves to later in the engines life so you basically have to sit around and wait till you hydro lock or start burning more coolant then fuel...

Lucky for Benz, by the time this happens your out of warranty coverage too.. Just perfect.

We all know they made thousands of m156 motors. If it was a common problem MB would do something about it.

No they wouldn't. It would cost way too much.

The techs aren't even allowed to fix something that they see is wrong under warranty unless it's a safety issue. You have to complain to have it fixed...

I have an 09 with 52k km... But that doesn't mean these bolts cant weaken at anytime....

What is scary is that there are a small handful of enthusiasts on this board and when you have one person with this issue, percentage wise it is a larger issue. How many instances of head bolt failure do you hear about on other AMG or M motors?

Did they fix it warranty???

Ticking is either lifters or the cam adjusters.

Exactly!

How many guys that aren't even on these forums having problems like this...

Go read in the E/S/ML sections, other guys are having problems with these bolts too, some out of warranty and some have even hydro locked the engine, bent rods/crank...

Not good if you ask me.

Haven´t got answer from factory yet.
Which lifters do you refer to? Cam adjusters?
Is these easy or hard fix?

Cams have to be removed for both jobs. Special tools are required.. Not an easy fix unless you are very familiar with these engines.

Lifters are what the cam contacts then in turn the lifter presses down on the valve. They fill with oil to take up the clearance between the cam lobe and the valve stem. Sometimes they stick closed and click or go bad.

Cam adjusters are used to retard/advanced the cam as the RPM increases/decreases to make the engine more efficient in all RPMs... They can get noisy and click.. I had one of mine replaced at 50k km.

Thanks a lot. I read that I need to check the oil. Main concern is that I don´t hydro lock engine before repair

I wouldn't even drive it.. If one of those bolts stretches more or gives way, etc, you will hydro lock the engine and bend rods, etc. Your engine will be ****ed and need major repairs.

Park it and get a cheap rental till its fixed.

Sorry to hear your situation, hope it is rectified soon! I have to stress with others here; no more driving the car!!!

Hydro-lock, yes, but there are other problems you will cause; possible coolant contaminating the engine oil; not good! Coolant being burned and sent to cat; not good!

I am sure the repair will include a full oil drain and replacement.

Good luck!

Finally I got news from dealership. They told that MB factory will cover 75% of repair and 25% I have to pay myself. It means I have to pay about 900$ myself

If your car is still under warranty, they should be covering 100% of the repairs..

Well, $900 is no loose change but at least they are covering 75% of the cost. One thing I'm curious about, why would stealership pay 75% of the cost? This to me seems like it's the manufacture problem with the engine...

Stealership don´t pay anything, the factory will cover the expenses.

Well, still...Why would MB factory pay 75%? That seems like it's mostly their fault? So meaning they should pay for everything.

Does anybody have any ideas, is there any possibility to solve this issue at AMG/factory/dealer expense?
Regular warranty has expired
I'm confused why a 09 C63 purchased at July 2009 is out of warranty

shouldn't the factory warranty be 4 years or 50,000 miles?

the maths just does not add up.
