Awesome DIY! Just swapped mine over the weekend (also installed the 2012 steering wheel). Not sure about yours but I had to use an adapter for the LED plugs (they are both females). The adapters were included with mine covers, so no big deal. I also left out the courtesy lights because I didn't feel like pulling apart the door panels.

It's just laminated, not real CF. The backing is ABS. It looks convincing enough unless you are looking at it from inches away. TBH the build quality isn't that great, but hey, it's about one third the price of a CF mirror cover.
