Out of curiosity, have any of you "rolled" against a B8 (new) Audi S4? That's the only other car I'm looking at (maybe a jag XFR) and I currently drive an audi. I like all wheel, although I don't need it as the SUV is 4x4.

Just curious if you guys have either done a dig or roll and see how the car's acceleration compares? The tunes for the S4 seem to be putting out 375wheel HP, around 330 wheel torque - so it's not matching the C63, but then again, it gets a lot better gas mileage. Am I hung up on gas - yep... Maybe I'll buy two cars - an old one to cruise in and eventually give to my kids, and the C63?

On the 5, you'll get flashed and passed at 80. When I made that trip before I got this car I used to avg 90mph. That is very typical. In San Diego, everyone goes 80.
What I would give to commute on roads like that. Around here (NoVA), everyone is closer to the posted limit if your lucky ... unless of course they are in the left lane in which case they do 15 under ...

I'm a conservative driver so I get a solid 14.3 mpg city/19.3 highway (driving to SFO at night).

I was shocked that I could almost get 20mpg on the highway.

I had an S5 try me from a roll recently.
Not sure how that compares to a B8 S4.
He had passengers, but even considering that, it was like he went into reverse.
I got a wave after as I let him pass and he continued to speed on about 85+ weaving in and out of traffic.

I do think the Bang and Olufsen stereo and fact you can get a manual are other pluses to the S4.

The A7 might be a nice option to consider with its supercharged V6.
Even better the upcoming S7 with a TT V8.

B&O stereo in the A/S 4-5 arent anything special. tried it on my friends s5...its comparable to our HK system. They dont look pretty like in the A7 or SLS.

I've read that the S4 is actually faster than the S5 V8 since it has more power under the curve. The S5 V8 only peaks higher....but still they are no match for the c63.

I did talk to the Audi people at the NY auto show and they said the RS5 was coming to the states though. THAT would be an option worth considering

If you really want to balance mpgs and performance, get a Porsche.

on highway, if you're truly conservatively driving, 22MPG should be reachable.

I have a 2009 model which was rated at 12/18, I think the newer ones are rated at 13/19 (better transmission) but I get around 14-14.5 in the summer and closer to 15.5-16 in the winter (obvious reasons), so around 15 overall. Not too much highway driving but a few stretches of 55 mph speed limits which help, normal Chicago traffic once in a while. Hit the gas when I can (if you don't, why would you buy this car?).

personally if I was in the market now I would wait! the new M3 (and probably new C63) will be coming out in 1 1/2 years or so and they should get MUCH BETTER MPG than the current generation. I am talking 30-40% better with the same performance! I fully expect 20 mpg average if not higher out of the new versions. Check out what the new E63 and M5 are getting and those have 520+ horsepower in much heavier cars.

but the sound and the feel of naturally aspirated engines......

I picked mine up specifically because the new ones are probably going turbo

Well if its the new V8 turbos, I am 100% okay with that! should sound just as good as the current one, I mean its still a 5.5L V8!

BUT I would be pissed if they put the non turbo SLK engine into the C63 with around 420 horsepower, unless of course they shed a ton of weight on the next generation and keep the 4 second 0-60 time by doing so...

The problem is not having turbos is a complete waste of gas! turbo technology is the new trend for a good reason, gives the same power as a larger non turbo engine but with 25%-40% gas savings! New E63 gets 16/24 MPG! That car is a lot heavier than the C63, has a ton more power and gets 33% better MPG than my C63! Seriously who wouldn't want that V8 5.5L Turbo over the V8 6.3L?

^ I prefer the 6.2 over the 5.5.
Its the better engine.
It makes honest reliable power all day long and revs higher.
Apparently BS and SLS engineers consider it the best engine for real high performance driving.

The simple power mods for the 6.2 improve reliability vs stressing it more with incresed boost.
We all know the 6.2 would eat the 5.5 for lunch if it was given some boost.
