Pulling the trigger... p31 or not ?!?!

I know some will say just to get a tune on a regular c63...but should i get a p31 car if i plan to eventually doing exhaust mods and maybe a 150 shot?

I found a 4k org mile p31 car but its $10,000 more than a regular c63 with that kind of mileage.

lastly...by getting a p31 car, does that almost 'Guarantee' i wont have any issues with the cam because of the upgraded internals of the p31? I read somewhere that a small % of 63s have some kind of cam issue....like something w/ the actual metal distorting or something. I plan to put 100,000 miles on the car despite the so-so gas mileage LOL

Sure i would love to have LSD but i can live without it, especially if i save myself $10k plus

I have had nothing besides American/Japaneese cars all my life, besides one audi that i bought brand new and was completely JUNK! I have have had my eye on the 63 and i am in love with it! IMO, its by far the best sedan for $50k out there. My buddies ISF is cool but not a fan of the style nor the fact that it only does 13.1 @ 109. He raced a bone stock 98 z28 w/ 168k miles and they were basically dead even 3 races in a row! Thats besides the point, but just saying The ISF best trait is its reliablity....but from doing research on forums, the c63 seems to be one reliable beast!

You should get the p31 package, it'll be worth it in the long run, LSD, more power, Red brake Calipers, You'll be able to sell it more easily too when the time comes because many folks are looking for a C63 with the p31 package when buying used, Its your call though

P31 for sure. When spending this much money, have NO regrets.

it's all about what you can afford. I did not know about the p31 when I bought my car since it was off the display room. But I won't pay 6k for it either when I can get a tune for a lot less if decide to go that route. Plus my happiness is measured within 0 to 60 mph and .01 sec difference is not worth 6k. Thats my .63 cents for you.

its not just a 30 hp though.. its the LSD, forged pistons, connecting rods, crankshaft, alcantra interior trim... etc.

i regret not getting it.

edit.. i see you know about the internals. just wait for another car and keep your eye on ebay unless you really want to buy it right now. there is always another car/boat to buy in short order.

Thanks for the input thus far...... nobody has comments on the cam issue? After reading everyones comments, i guess everyone feels the p31 for additional $10,000 is worth it.

However,

The main thing i wanted to know is if a p31 car is less likely to have this 'camshaft problem' since it has different internals ??

Maybe im taking this issue way to far, and maybe it only effects a VERY small number of 63s. If thats the case, thats what i need to know. thanks again for your input

There is no cam issue.

Personally, Id get NON P31, tune it and get an aftermarket 100% locking diff.

Cost you a couple K compared to the additional 10...

+1

If you have plans to mod the car, or have a history of modified vehicles, you know the slippery slope of aftermarket "improvements." The warranty issue shouldn't be a big deal if you go to a reputable tuning company who knows what they're doing, not some backyard operation.

If you're keeping it stock, but will take it to the track, the P31 makes sense, because of the warranty. Otherwise, it's just for bragging rights...but that's not bad either.

Only a handful of us will ever see the full capabilities of this car. I still giggle every time I push the start button.

Definitely go with non P31 in your situation. With your planned mods you will need a custom tune anyway. If you were to do mods that did NOT require remapping the ECU, then the P31 for sure. You will be voiding warranty anyway.

Yes
If you know you are going to mod the car I would NOT get P31.

Benefit of P31 is added performance with ZERO risk associated with your warranty. If you're going to run that risk anyway, no sense in getting P31.
