ECU tune review
I have been a lurker for a while. Picked up a 2012 C63 sedan late last year. I came here since I saw the MHP tune gone wrong topic... I just want to further warn others.
I ended up going with Kleeman, I recommend them as 1. they are a large tuner 2. They have conservative tunes which they even admit to as their reputation would be ruined if they destroyed an engine. So if you want to play it safe I suggest using them its true other tuners will get you 10-15 more HP but I decided to play it safe.. And I have no doubt if the tune caused any issue Kleeman would have the resources to replace a $30k motor.
I was originally going to send MHP my ECU which I shipped out. After getting his receipt I backed out since I asked him not to raise the rev limiter or do any "transmission" tuning to the new MCT unit. Which his receipt stated.
I got an email stating the stock engine tach is wrong and only revs to 6,600 RPM and how he has tuned over 1000' AMG cars along with tuning 4 Veyrons.... I emailed him telling him I did a UPS send back and got a chain of emails some of them again for some reason about tuning Veyrons, as people know here he does not write the files he gets them from others, he even admits this in the email to changing from "TechTec" to a new supplier..
I ended up having to have the credit card company get involved, but finally after a nearly 14 days of claiming to be away on business I got my refund.
I guess another thing that upset me was him stating to ship it without signature conformation as it was a gated business park.....The address was for a house in a residential area... And again he claimed to be in town but suddenly when I asked for a refund he was out of town, so in theory my $1,500 ECU would of sat outside his house for over a week.
At the end of the day be careful... I really doubt anyone would let a company out of a house tune a million dollar Veyron...

my wife bananas! :D
WOW! MHP never ceases to amaze me with their shady business practices. Would really like to see them come here and give their side of the story.

I don't think he did anything particularly wrong, other than telling me he was out of town and delaying a refund.
The only reason I stopped my shipment to him was the receipt I got back stating things that were going to be done, I had spoken with him I wanted a conservative tune and nothing pushing the limits and my wishes were not met, and I was given an attitude of don't worry I tune million dollar cars and have done over 1000 AMGs.
If someone wants to message me their Email I can send you the emails between me and MHP, along with the address of the house they wanted me to send it to. Again I don't think anything is crazy or scandalous, other than delayed refund. Again the product I wanted was different than what was going to be done, and after reading here and on other sites I had to intercept my package. At the end of the day I was out $150 in shipping charges but went with Kleeman and don't have to worry about my car.
But my point here to others is this is a $70K car don't skimp out on a few hundred $$ get it tuned by a large company, if anything goes wrong either they will correct it or at least have the assets to go after to get it fixed if needed.

Overnight shipping from west coast, with insurance for around $1500 along with deliver before 10am, as i wanted the fastest turn around. Then having the package intercepted...
Dodger you were the reason I wanted to go with MHP in the first place, I ignored others bad reviews... But then after the emails and claims of the Veyrone tune, along with telling me to ship to a gated business which turned out to be a house after I google mapped it.......

I don't know every technical detail about a cars engine, but I know a few things. I spoke with Kleeman and was explain what other tuners might do to extract extra power. I don't know if you or anyone else knows the limits that other tuners are pushing, obviously you wanted the fastest C63 or one of them. (I just wanted a tad extra power)
So far I have heard nothing bad about
1.Kleeman
2. Renntech -other than price.
3. OE tuning
Dont quote me on it but I believe the E55 folks had trouble with a tuner that damaged some engines(It wasn't MHP).. Again I wanted to play it safe and just get that unlocked power of the C63 engine that the E63 enjoyed without further pushing it. I explained that to MHP and was given a receipt stating several things that concerned me, as it was opposite of what I talked about with Andy. And was then told by him that I was an idiot and to trust him, and other things just didn't add up.

One day i found a Bugatti on a recovery vehicle on the high way of Abu Dhabi-UAE, and told Andy about it. He kept swearing that he tuned that one.

It is hard to get any tuner to reveal to you exactly what they are changing.
You would have to have serious faith in someone.

From what I've seen TQ is falling off at the higher RPMs at such a high rate I don't think raising the rev limit would help much.
Revised intake manifold, cams, and headers would allow these motors to breath better at higher RPM's.

I have been told by another respected vendor that the M156 has a conservative redline from the factory. Therefore raising the redline by a small ammount would not be such a bad thing. However, the choice should be yours as to how you want to manage the safety of your engine.

I think the internals are fine, even the head bolts. The engine is already an oversquare design giving it a benefit for high RPM use. The issue is getting the thing to breath at such high engine speeds.

Did you get a baseline and post Kleeman tune dyno?
It would be nice to know the gains.

In the end you never know what was loaded into your ecu.

I have 2 friends with c63's one stock and the other p31, I plan on hitting the drag strip with them soon.
Others have posted dynos but at the crank they seem to give a little over 515hp-520hp which is equal to the E63.

I did not. As I shipped my ECU to kleeman. But I had a prior 2010 C63 AMG and can tell a difference.
