For all of those who have flash-tuned their C63...

A simple question:

Is it worth it in your truthful opinion, to flash tune a C63 if it is your daily driver?

I have been seriously considering a flash tune for the past 6 months or so, but I am not too sure if the enjoyment and driving experience of the extra power is worth it for the car that I drive 5 days a week for a 40 mile commute. I have heard that their can actually be an increase in your fuel economy with a tune.

However, is their any risks or hassle of flashing my car up to 480 or 500 hp. Do you go thru tires and brakes like gangbusters? Have you had problems with dealers re-flashing your tunes back to stock during dealership services? Are any of your tunes unreliable or causing more problem in your commuter vehicle? I realize that I already pay a premium for gas, as I fill my tank up at least two to three times a week depending on weekend use. Paying the gas premium is worth it to me for the C63 never fails to put a smile on my face, every time I drive it. I have put a sprint booster on, which is enjoyable on aggressive, but I'm sure a tune would be even more "all that.".

I'm sure your ride would be more enjoyable and aggressive with a tune and at least a CAT delete.

You have a C63 and you care about how much the fuel economy will increase ?

You'll live once, enjoy your car in a good health as long as you can.

having the tune is a must IMO...more power and crisper shifts throughout the powerband make the car much more enjoyable to drive.

Here is the question: Do you really need 480 hsp driving to work and back? Hell, do you even need 451 hsp? I love the C63. It is sooo strong and fast just the way I bought it. Other than when I track it, do I ever feel like I need more hsp or torque on city and suburb streets? No. Is it cool to have that under the hood and sit in traffic or a red light looking at the guy next to me and thinking "I bet you don't know what I got under my hood, even though I really can't use it unless i want to get arrested"? It is but its kind of a lost cause...so many states have gotten more strict with displaying power and speeding...

Yes. It's kind of a toss up. The extra power is awesome and the difference in shifting is unreal. But if you just commute to work, you may not use it as often as you wish. I just hate the feeling of potentially getting denied on warranty work along with not being able to open the beast up around other drivers on city streets!

I can attest to the part of getting warranty work denied. Because I had my ecu tuned (at the time, they did not offer remote flashing) and that it was physically opened, they wouldnt warranty my ECU when I had an electrical short that damaged the pins on my ecu...the expense set me back $2100...but this isn't an issue now that remote flash tunes are available...that's the route I would definitely go at this point.

hehe, seriously, knowing you, and how you drive, I think you would find ways to use the extra power.

If you look at all the dyno numbers for tunes, you realize the power difference from stock to tuned doesn't open up really until after 4k RPM.

Just driving around town in S mode on my normal commute I can't tell. It isn't until you really open the car up that you feel that extra pull.

My MPG did improve from 13mpg to 14mpg average, but this could have something to do with my engine being more broken in IDK. I haven't changed my driving habits.

BAD INFLUENCE!...this is true...

After Rufferto let me drive his 2009 C63 Sedan 3 years ago, so enamored with the car, I ended up buying a certified Preowned 2008, 2 days later...the rest is history, 2 C63's and counting!

Hmm, tough call - if you're really a 16 yr old kid spoofing daddy's ID, then no you don't need a tune. In all other cases, I think it's rude not to get a tune.

I think getting a tune can be dangerous and you don't really know what's the consequences on the engine in the long term. MB spends lot of millions testing their products, I don't think the tuners do the same. I personally don't want to take the risk and see my engine blown in 12 months..

Understand a few things.

The m156 in the c63 is detuned from all other 63's from the factory

Tuning is not some voodoo black magic, simply dial in the AFR and timing.

As long as your AFR is good you're fine. The engine will protect itself from too much timing, shutty fuel, etc by retarding the timing if necessary.

Like b16 said its not magic. It's pretty basic engine concepts...
