MSRP wise, base model C63 is 58K and base E63 is 88K. That's a 30K difference. Fully loaded C63 and E63 sit at 85K and 125K respectively, bringing the difference up to 40K.
Not everybody is free to buy whatever they dream of, especially when there's obligations involved you know.

I appreciate the advice and thorough response. I'm actually not one of the guys on this forum with tons of money to spare, so it's a very tough decision for me. I've always wanted an E63, and this seems to be a great opportunity to get one, but I do love my C63 and really have no reason to give it up. The Biturbo M157 is tempting, but you're right that my modded C63 definitely holds its own. Maybe you're right that I should give it another year or so.

You're welcome! I just try to add some common sense to the otherwise
testosterone driven topic of buying another AMG
. Here are a few more thoughts:Your modded 2011 C63 is a pretty nice car, and in some ways, a C63 is more "iconic" and desirable than a E63. You can drive it for another year and sell it for $50k vs. $55k right now. Plus, you don't owe any more in sales taxes since you have already taken the hit upfront. So one more year with your C63 will cost you only $5k or thereabouts in depreciation.
On a $93k car, you will be paying almost $8k in registration and sales taxes alone. And it will be much more difficult to sell an E63 in a year or two, and you will take a considerably hit on top of the $15k discount that you got (expect another $15k depreciation in one year). C63's are much more in demand in the used car market as they give enthusiasts a cheaper entry ticket into the wonderful world of AMGs.
If you really want an E63, wait a bit more and you will see bigger discounts on leftover 2012 cars. $20-30k on a $108k car with 2013's rolling in may not be out of the question.
So here are some (hypothetical) numbers:
One more year with 2011 C63 - ~$5-6k depreciation (from $55k)
One year with E63 - $8k taxes + $15k depreciation = $23k
Two more years with 2011 C63 - ~$8k depreciation (from $55k)
Two years with E63 - $8k taxes + $25k depreciation = $33k
So the E63 will cost you $18k more over one year, and $25k more over two years. Do it if that is not a lot of money to you, otherwise, enjoy your beautiful C63!
Of course, these numbers are educated guesses and reality may be a bit different, but it should put things in perspective.

It's great to see people putting logical and sound advice with these cars, but AMGs are bought out of passion, not by logic. If not, we'd all be driving Hyundais.
My opinion is to stay with your modded C63. The E63 is just not "sporty" because of its size and unassuming looks. Just looks big, especially when you're driving by yourself. But hauling your kids around will be badass.

The E63 has made some great strides in handling with a quicker steering rack at 13:1 and steel springs up front. The rear no longer auto levels except when parked and the engine is off. My W212 E63 N/A clearly outhandled my old W211 E55 and the TT E63 will be even better as it can power itself out of the corners and against milder understeer.
Nobody should ever buy an AMG with depreciation worries in mind- they all tend to drop and as the cost is greater so is the drop. So if money is an issue the C might be the one to stay with.
I do know there are published lease deals on the E63 right now with money factors at .00140 (very low for MBCC) and potential trunk money (Factory to dealer) which can be shared. If I wanted an E sedan that would be the way to go... let the bank and factory participate in the depreciation and you can walk away after a few years via a 3 year lease. But this all depends on your intent on keeping or dumping the car.

Lots of good points on going for a C63 vs E63.
If you don't have lots of things to carry and no passengers/kids to haul, then C63 should be more than adequate. The M156 is more than powerful enough in a car the size of C63, and that's the reason MB keeps M156 in C63 and uses M156 in SLS. For larger, heavier car like E and S-class, the 5.5TT is more ideal for frequent stop and go. At highway speed, both engines perform nearly the same.
As for the 5.5TT's eco mode: Per MB, the starter is different and designed to outlast the car; you also have two batteries in the car (I would like that so I never get stranded with a dead battery).
If you worry about the depreciation, just give it a couple of years for the previous owner to get hit with the bulk of the depreciation.
