2012 Seat Support Question (Air filled or mechanical)
I absolutely love the seats in my sedan. My question is:
Are the side lateral supports (the ones that make you feel nice and snug on your ribs) filled electrically with AIR? Or are they completely mechanical?
I ask this because it seems when I get in to my car after it has been sitting over night or after a 9 hour day at work, it seems they have deflated or opened up, hence I have to reset them again. (which is fine)...
Either I'm losing weight in that period or they're somehow filled with air?
Just curious about every detail of my prized possession
Thanks for any input.

im pretty sure its air ! while we're on the topic, anyone realized the seat getting loose with time ! not as tight in terms of stock position (not topped up)? cause when i clean the dash sitting the passenger seat i realize it feels soo much tighter, like the day i first got it ! thats really bad since ive only had the car for 9 months

hmm i dont think there is any adaptive support system with our seats, just really heavily bolstered bucket seats.
edition1, did you adjust your side bolsters? (you can adjust the side bolsters with the buttons on the side if you didnt know)
ctown, what do you mean by reset them?

hahahahahah ... just picturing my face if i hadn't known that .. would have been like finding gold !! :P .. i know what u mean but im talking about fully deflated, it does not feel like it used to ! sit in your passenger seat and tell me it doesnt feel significantly tighter ! also cause my GF is 5'2" and 95lbs, so she fits right in the middle without stretching out the seat so to say .. whereas your ol friend over here (me) im 6'2" and 190lbs i must stretch out the bolsters ! ... also, doesn't it **** you off when people get out of your car in 2 motions rather than one fluid motion ... they turn to the right while their thighs are weighing down on the seat then push themselves up from there, completely oblivious to how much that ticked off my OCDness

not the lower, just the top ! what i was talking about is the seat as a whole feels more loose ! you'll understand when you sit in a brand new seat then compare it to yours .. i thought leather was standard ? what do you have ?

nah leather isnt standard LOL. i have the standard mbtex/dinamica seats....quite nice. I like the dianmica seat inserts but mbtex feels cheap. oh well they dont wear as bad (i've seen c63s with some f-ed up leather lol) and I always have fat friends hopping in and out of my car so i guess it pays off.

king of like anything else ... the cushions loose their firmness the more they are used!

It has to be air. When it's quiet, I think you can also hearing the hissing of air. I don't think mechanical bolster will be able to create even inflation like that.

I guess I was curious bc I am almost positive that my previous e92 M3's side bolsters were mechanical.. Not the lumbar (I believe it was air filled bc I could hear a pump like device when adjusting the lumbar support), but the bolsters never "deflated" or made the sound.
anyways, thanks! AIR it IS!!!

i figured it was air. isn't there like a hose looking thing under the seats. i've noticed it a few times when i was vacuuming the back and just figured that's what it was for. i'm probably 1000% wrong though.
