Mixing Mobile1 0w-40 with Shell 5w-40

Hello All,

I just purchased some Mobil1 to top up the oil in my C63 is it dangerous to mix the dealers shell 5w-40 with the above oil?

Regards
J

(a)'12 C63 P/P, LSD, 19" m/spoke,comfort pack. (b)Astra SRI.
Thumbs up

Wouldn't worry me at all.
Our dealer recently topped up our C63 with Fuchs, whereas I'm lead to believe it would've had Mobil 1 in the sump.
Cheers, Pickles.

I thought all MB dealers used Mobil 1, no?

I mixed and had what I thought was a lifter tick. It went away once I changed the oil. I wouldn't recommend it.

From what I can work out dealers have a fair bit of leeway with respect to the brand of oil they use (I stress brand of oil not specs). Mercedes/AMG publish a list of approved oils that meet these specs and it seems dealers have the latitude to choose whatever brand of oil they like, which in practice means whatever brand of oil that meets MB specs and offers the dealer the best bulk purchase deals.
To answer your question I believe Mercedes (as in McLaren) and Mobil 1 have "parted ways" in the Formula 1 circus and this presumably has seen less Mobil 1 use at the dealer level. I know my dealer is now using Castrol, someone else on here mentions Fuchs, and so on
