C63 goes into limp mode video and pic included
This is the second time it's happened and it happened to me 3 different times in a row today. Once on the highway, then getting off highway and then on a side street. I got really nervous.
You can hear the engine in the video below and see the car basically doesn't accelerate at all.
http://youtu.be/hgGaX64K-E8?hd=1
The oil temps ranged from 266 Celsius to 275 Celsius. Outside the temperature was over 100 F, but not as hot as you see o the dash here. That had to be heat from the engine because at once time it was up to 129 F.
Sorry for the blurry picture. I take no responsibility if you stare at it long enough and go cross-eyed.

I might get to take the car out 1-2 times per week if I'm lucky and you can't really get crazy in Chicago. Too much traffic. I was maybe doing 50-55 mph the first time and 30 mph the second time. The third time I was just trying to make a turn from a dead stop and the car would barely move.

Looking at your temps everything seems normal for a hard drive. Where I live its over 100F for 3 months of the year and normally is over 110 during the day. I have yet to have a C63 go into limp mode and I drive it hard.
Looks like your car is most likely going into limp mode due to the transmission overheating and its protecting itself (hence why it goes to S mode and won't let you shift manually anymore, which I assume you were doing before hand). As others have pointed out here that its important to brake first and slow down then downshift. This reduces stress and heat and will keep you out of limp mode.
Next time you take your car out for a spin, keep it in S and brake hard, notice where the car downshifts its not over doing it and using the transmission as a brake, its making sure you have the ability to accelerate quickly. Then try and duplicate this in M mode, and for the street this should 100% keep you out of limp mode, unless you live in a place that you can drive around crazy for 20+ mins.

What year is your car?
I would be very concerned for several reasons.
All three temps on your display are extremely high including the ambient outside air temp. Mine is often higher than the actual temperature but never 15-30 degrees?????
I have never had my water temperature go above 204 even during extended track sessions in 100 degree weather. The 221 on your display is very much abnormal. Oil temps can and do climb to 270+, limp mode on mine kicks in at 282. However this rarely happens on the track and I dont see it being possible during street driving as you simply cant keep the peddle to the floor on a sustained basis as you can on the track.
My advice is to get this thing checked ASAP. Your car may have a serious cooling issue or your sensors are being misread.

He did tell me the water temp was nothing serious, but the oil temp was something to be concerned about. I wasn't driving hard and never even got above 60 mph and most of the time I was in bumper to bumper traffic so I was going really slow.
I'll see what the dealer says today. Maybe I'll get lucky and they'll replace my cooling with that from the Black Series.

Dealership decided they need to keep it for the weekend because they are baffled at what could be wrong. All temp sensors are testing fine, but the pictures tell a different story.
I hope it's not someone trying to keep my car for the weekend and drive it around. If I find out they do that I will raise hell (with the temps here in Chicago we're pretty damn close to it now anyway).

It was a about 110F today, I went on and off the freeway on ramps about 5 or 6 times did a few launch controls also (A/C on full), used my transmission as a brake. My normal water temp was 200 just driving around, it went up very slowly to 210 ish and settled. My oil temp is normally 220ish, I got it up to 265ish, no limp mode. Couldn't really get the car to go much higher mostly due to traffic and stop lights.
My air temp sensor will show 120F+ even 130+ 140+ while stopped, but will go down with driving, you have to remember its located right at the front of the car you get a lot of heat from the engine and from the ground while stopped.
If it helps I remember my old C63 the temps were different, I just don't think they are that accurate. Try driving hard and leaving the car in auto and see if you can get it in limp mode, don't use the paddles or shift at all.

I got the car back yesterday late in the morning and it was running great. Unfortunately it was too late to make it to Supercar Saturday though.
Temps were only 100 F outside and there were not a lot of cars on the road. So I opened it up and tried some hard driving to see what would happen. Water temp didn't break 201 and oil temp stayed below 260 so I am happy.

They only know that the temps set off overheating codes, but they don't know exactly why. There were no other codes thrown to indicate problems. Both times it has happened to me were in high temps 100+ and bumper to bumper traffic on the highway.
I also have my suspicions that it may have been my driving now too. I usually leave my car in 4th gear in S mode when driving at all times. I'll let the car change to 5th gear on its own if it needs to. That means higher RPM's which I think could lead to hotter temps. I'm no expert though, but after letting it drive in 5th gear yesterday my temps stayed low at all times.
Yes, those temps are fine.

Are you still running the tune?

The car was fine the next day, but temps were about 10-12 degrees cooler and no traffic so I won't know if it will happen again. Chicago has had some pretty hot weather lately and I am hoping it doesn't come back.
