The link error is a pain in the ***...so frustrating

 

I had a CEL for the gas cap being "loose". I didn't believe the dealer when they said that was the reason because I always tighten it firmly.

At any rate, they cleared the code, they didn't suspect anything was wrong. Yesterday, I got the "gas cap loose" on my dashboard and the gas light flashing. Again, gas cap is perfectly snug. This happened after I had to brake rather heavily, cleared up about 25 seconds later.

Odd.

 

A loose gas cap has triggered a CEL on my gf's Forrester before, but why it's occurring when the cap is fine could mean a faulty sensor.

 

I had the same issue with the gas cap loose message. They replaced the cap which didn't fix it. Then they replaced the purge valve under warranty and I haven't had any issues for 4-6 weeks.
