hoods with vents..
would it be a problem for the engine to get wet - say when it rains (or getting the car washed)? does it really helps to cool the engine? or purely for style?

i've got dads cf hood as well... no rain problems whatsoever
temps have gone down a couple degrees... what i noticed right away after installing the new hood was that the oil temp would fluctuate up and down a lot... i can only assume it's because of the vents... with the stock hood, the numbers may go up and down but very slowly... sometimes pretty steady... the vents definitely gives the temp gauge a workout =)

yeah.. i've read how some people have had that problem... but with my 2009 and my current 2010, i never had that issue...
i live in texas and been through a few summers in both cars... but they never fluctuated like the way some has described... i'm not sure what the problem is... maybe bad placement of the temp gauge... who knows...
i've never seen mine fluctuate that much... 50F is crazy... i'm talking 5F and under...
just as an example... i'll start at like 220F
stock - 220F (maybe 20-30 seconds or a minute) -223F - (again after a short time) - 220F
vented hood - 220F ( few seconds later) 223F (few seconds later) 220F (seconds) 218F
but the general median is a little lower with the vented hood... not drastic... but i think it improves as the car is moving

Yeah, mine is a mystery at this point. The dealership ran a diagnostic and sent the results to AMG for review. We're going to get to the bottom of this at some point.

I have three vehicles with functional hood vents (just realized that as I typed it), and all the vents are OEM. If having water get in / on the engine due to vents was an issue, I don't think Ford or MB would have put them there (not being sarcastic).

^^ i think for OEM no big deal (or no issues to worry about).. as you said, the manufacturer wouldn't put 'em there just for style points :-)
i'm more asking about for aftermarket hoods.. there's another post asking about having a BS hood to fit on a 08-11 models.. does the engine bay of the BS differ to the 'common' c63?
i guess my next question is: there are different aftermarket hoods with different placements of vents.. does it matter where (the vents) are placed?
the hood, engine bay on this car really heats up and (and takes longer) to cool down when i park it in the garage.
