Contisportcontact 5P (2013 OEM) vs. Michelin PSS

Can anyone offer a comparison btwn these tires?

The contis came on my 2013 c63 sedan and they seem like good tires but I have nothing to compare them to so I really have no way of knowing how good they are...

Everyone speaks so highly of the PSS and how much of a difference is noticed when swithing from the Pirelli P Zeros.

I'm just wondering if I should be expecting just as big of an improvement if I get the PSS?

It is all slight degrees of "better". Wear out what you have on it before replacing.

I know that the AMG Driving Academy in canada swear by the Conti 5p. I also have them on my SLS and am impressed with the wear. I had PZero on the C63 and I went through a few sets, seemingly quicker than the SportConti 5p.

For me, Conti5 are the best!

M'y tires after 10000kms and 3 turn on the nordschleife!

While this link does not compare the Conti5p tires to the Pilot SS it does offer some insight into the Pilots compared with similar tires.

Yes
I just opted to get a new set of 5P's put on while at the dealership getting an oil change. By the time the rears wear out, the fronts should be just about done and I'll replace all 4 together. The OEM 5P's lasted about 9000 miles.

I've been really happy with the 5P's thus far....verrrrrry curious about the PSS', but unlike the 09's Pirelli's (which were awful) these 5P's have been good, I didn't hesitate much to get them again.

I say burn up and THEN switch to the PSS.

Main reason: cannot beat the PSS warranty and you might squeeze a "little" more life out of the PSS. If getting close to the end of PSS warranty, drive like a bat out of hell, and replace the PSS with the warranty provided.

Both are exceptional tires. Warranty wins!!

Just switched from conti5's to PSS a week ago. Theyre both great tires. I burnt through my contis in 6000 miles, but i do push my car really hard, always do 0-60's at lights. Look wise, the pss are much beefier. Price wise, PSS is more expensive, but as others stated, warranty helps. Grip, both good around corners. From a dig, i feel like the PSS grips more at lower temps then the conti's do. But from what i recall, theres this one exit where my conti's wouldn't make the ESP engage at 60MPH, while the PSS do.

The PSS need at least a few hundred miles before they grip well IMO.... more than other tires in my experience.

The pss seem less bumpy to me on some of the roads ive been on before with the contis. Very comfortable and smoother ride IMO.

Thanks.
PSS better compensates for unevenness?
What tires quieter?

I have been very impressed with the wear of the Contis. Got ~12000km (non track days, mostly non stop start driving) out of the rears (which to be honest was probably past the legal limit on tread wear) and the original fronts are nearing their limit now too at 20000km.
I had several sets of PSS on an M3 and thought this was a good tyre, felt no reason to change from these while I owned it. Having now experienced the Conti 5P - and I appreciate I am comparing different cars here - I dont think the improvement in the dynamics of the PSS tire (handling/noise/grip) are big enough to: (1) notice by the average daily driver C63 owner and (2) justify what looks like no better (and possibly worse) wear with the PSS and for me here in Australia about a 15% increase in cost compared to the 5P.

A few hundred miles for it to warm up? That's worse than Pirellis.

A lot
A simple burnout and PSS are better than any other 'true street tire'. There is no contest.

I honestly have believed they are so poor dead cold, to improve tire wear... but that's just a guess.

Peace,
Dave

Not to "warm up" but to get to full grip from new. After the first few hundred miles the grip well all of the time.

I burned through the stock Contis in 7500kms... PSS lasted 16000kms+! The performance limit of the PSS were higher IMO, and they were better in the wet too!

They were great on the highway! Very comfortable up over 280km/h. In the city they were great too. Plenty of grip. I loved the PSS wayyy more than the contis. I have tried kumhos and they were better than the contis at a much better price. I am interested in trying something much more sticky next year -but am worried about tread wear.

Isn't that SOP for any new tires anyways? They always spray tires with a protective layer out of the factory...
