How often do you change your oil?
#30
I was just thinking about this the other day. Our daily driver is a 2000 S500 I have had since new. It has 176,000 miles on it and still runs perfect and does not burn oil. I used to change it about every 10-15k miles years ago but in the last five years I probably have only changed it when it started to look overly dirty. I have gone 20-30k between changes. I run mobile 1. Makes me wonder how good synthitic oil really is??? I have also began to wonder how long the starters last in these cars. Mine still has the origional. Must have started that car a million times... I bought a 2006 S55 with the intention of selling the S500 but with all the miles on the 500 and for what I could get for it I decided to keep it till it dies and only use the S55 for fun. Now have two S55s but the old S500 just keeps on going and still floats down the highway... Gotta love Mecedes Benz.

There are some engineers and mechanics that say synthetic is so good you can go 50k miles without changing it...just top it off and change the filter. Even folks that aren't as extreme say that regular oil should be able to go 6k miles on a new-ish car and synthetic should be able to go 10k easily. Obviously this isn't true for high mileage cars, but you get the picture.
TBH, if you're still running strong on 176k miles, it might be time to sell. I had an Acura which was basically bulletproof until about 185k miles. Then EVERYTHING started going wrong.

The only question mark is the nickel. The notorious lifters are made of 9310 steel with 2-3% nickel in them. On the other hand, there is no flags on iron showing problems on the cams.
As CoolBDPhenom03 mentioned, yes I have tracked my car.
Plan to do it again this Nov.

Not a single person follows the Flexible service interval that your car tells you... if your using 229.5 spec oil you can go as long as 19,500KM between changes.
Your car will tell you when it needs oil changes
That being said I normally do mine once a year. I don't drive much so its between 5-7000km.
Like RS squad said Oil is cheap engines are not
